Hey come all. I have been absent for a while thanks to an encounter between some very hard ice and my shoulder.  I had partial shoulder replacement surgery about 10 days ago.  I'm recovering but feels like it slow.  Naturally, this has put a  temporary halt to  my plans to go full time in August/September.  I will have to see how  recovery and finances go.  One decision that will have to be made in the next three weeks is whether or not to stay in my current rental situation.  I could opt to go month-to-month but my rent increases should I do that.

If I can work it out, I would like to purchase an enclosed cargo trailer  before the end of summer and spend the fall  doing a light conversion.   For financial reasons it might make sense for me to stay at my job until the end of the year. Although I am not pleased with the idea of starting out in the dead of winter,  if I can get the conversion done by mid November, I should be OK.  Any changes or additions I want to make I can do on the road as time and finances permit.  The son of a friend of mine has purchased property and would allow me to keep the cargo trailer there since I can't keep it in my suburban neighborhood.

Anyway, that's the plan I'm kicking around in my head   I am crossing fingers that it will be possible.

glad you are back and that you are recovering. just the other day I was wondering what happened to you. again hope you have a quick recovery. highdesertranger

Life has a way of kicking us around!! Glad you're feeling better... enough to rejoin us, anyway!

And here I thought you just didn't love us anymore? Teaches me to think, or not. :p

Thanks all. It's been an effed up couple of weeks to be sure. If anything, it has made my resolve to go full-time stronger: get rid of the crappy and go to the happy. Or something like that.

I like that!

Hope you heal up quickly, that kind of surgery is rough.

Hate to hear about your fall. Things like that just complicate plans. Seems like the more time that passes between the plan and execution, the more opportunity there is for things to go wrong.

Heal quick, mothercoder. Waiting is frustrating, but you'll make it.

:) It's nice to have you back and I hope you heal quickly.

Hope you feel better soon. Sending good thoughts

Hoping for a speedy recovery, (for the both of us). Yep I had some medical issues as well. Winter is not a bad time of the year if you are in the South West. Wish you the best.

Once you have wheels, whenever the weather report says "ice", you can get the 'ell out of there. Here's hoping that you heal well and quickly.

Thought I'd share an update. I'm back and work now so I'm feeling better but still sore as hell. Still need to start PT.

I decided to renew my lease so I won't be going full-time until next June. :-((( That really has me unhappy but I think it's the smartest thing to do. I am realizing that full recovery is going to take a while since I'm no longer in my 30's. Or 40's. Or 50's. Sigh. And I really have no idea whether I will be able to handle hitching and unhitching anything.

I think by early next spring I should have a solid idea of what my shoulder can handle. If I can handle hitching, I'll probably try to find a fiberglass TT. Because even if I can handle hitching, I won't be able to do any percussion type (hammering) work like ever. I would have to pay someone to do a build. And if the shoulder isn't good enough to handle hitching, I'll for sure have to hire someone to build out a van for me. Because I'm not going to buy a Class C and I doubt I will be able to find a Class B in my price range out here.

So I'm just healing and dreaming and wishing the days away until I'm better and I can finally start my REAL life.

Sorry to hear about your medical issues.  Really, those of us who live the life should have some kind of umbrella that protects us from illness and injury.  Seems only fair.  Hope you're better.

I know you want to be on the road yesterday but having the time to get ready properly is a blessing believe me. I had been prepping my trailer for boondocking for 6 years. Learned solar and designed a system, even had the components. The same with the internet and making sure I was connected, handling finances on the road, I have even been thinning out and packing up what I could for a few years. The thing is there was so much that couldn't be done until I knew it was happening that it was overwhelming when I finally knew I was hitting the road in just months. I thought I'd leisurely sort and pack the rest but instead I was dealing with doctors, work, injuries and pushing myself to the point of exhaustion daily. A some point I passed the point of recovering on a regular basis and just kept having to force myself to keep going no matter what. I was shoving stuff into boxes, putting off things that I needed to do and by the time I made it to the RTR I could barely do anything.

So be glad you have time to heal, do things at a comfortable rate, be well prepared and be able to enjoy it when you do finally get to hit the road. The road will always be there, you will be better off if you can do it right.

Thanks for that post Jim, sometimes it's reassuring to hear that you don't actually have to get out on the road tomorrow. As much as one might want too, gotta do it when the time is right. Sometimes my mind outpaces my body and it can get frustrating.

Hope you make a full or close to full recovery with your shoulder. This gives you extra time to find that great deal, as they do seem to be harder to come by in your neck of the woods.

Hoping you heal completely from this injury, and get the 'dwelling figured out
