It’s the season where most of us Northern Hemisphere nomads are thinking more about ways to heat our rigs than to cool them, but I saw this today.

It’s a variation on the ice chest swamp cooler. It pumps ice water through the copper coils. I have no idea whether it works better, but I suppose it adds less water vapor/humidity to the air.

Interesting and might work OK as long as you had plenty of ice on those 96 deg. days. You could probably get better results by circulating cold water thru an auto A/C condenser with the air pushed by a 12-volt radiator fan with speed control.

You would. I know because I had one that I built for that exact purpose. It worked without ice too. It worked best on cool days. But it takes energy to boil water. I used a pressure cooker and attached the feed to the radiator condenser to the spot in the lid where the weight goes. It was way to big to hall around in a conversion van. I decided that well made mountaineering filters are smaller and easier to use. You use one of those to get rid of the bugs and you use a charcoal filter pitcher to improve the taste. I also use a cheap pre filter to get rid of any larger chunks before it hits the expensive filters.
