I had a visitor at work yesterday.

An Alligator Lizard decided to stop by the amphitheater and look around yesterday afternoon.

For a frame of reference, that wall section to the lizard's right is 12.5 inches wide. I figure that places this lizard at about 15 inches long.

As my daughter would say “call beans”. I Think that means “I like it.”

Oh wow. I’ve never seen a lizard like that!

It's an Alligator Lizard. They're pretty common where I'm at in Southern California. They're quick and mimic snakes when they move. They will bite if provoked and while their bite is not harmful, they don't let go.

Several years ago, I saw an Alligator Lizard fighting a Garter Snake. They were locked jaw to jaw for several minutes. The lizard actually managed to get away from the snake.

We had a cat bring in this beauty in Quartzsite. I really wanted to keep him but he was taken to another wash away from our cats.

LOL that's how we would catch them when we were kids. Stick your finger in their face and they would bite and not let go. Then you could pick them up and grab them.

Cammalu, that's a Western Fence Lizard, Blue Belly is the common name.
