Funny name, works well...I bought the smallest one called the Companion...it's a bit too large I think for one-person meals, but if you are making a stew or soup for 2-4 people I think it would work well for that.

Think of it as a crock pot that's faster, lighter, non-breakable, and works on your propane stove or over a campfire.

My first batch of chicken stew was REALLY good... (Hint: I poured in a bottle of Shiner Bock!)

What does the bottom of the pan look like? Is it perfectly flat? Would you please consider posting a photo of it? No I dont have an induction stove but I do have a ceramic cooktop that needs flat bottom pans for the heat distribution.

You know I was actually in the market for a "camp crock" last year and came across a stainless steel double wall ozark trail 1/2 gallon thermos for like $10 and 1 gallon for $20 at wally world. I was planning on doing thermos cooking style slow cooking with it (heating and sealing, reheating and resealing as necessary). But since I have seen ads for the can cooker I have wondered if the ozark trails could be used like this. Maybe not cuz they're vacuum sealed? Dunno.

have to admit, this is the first time in my 71 years that I've ever heard of Shiner Bock. Does it have a cut following?

Shiner bock is the one with the ram on the label right? Eh about as common as rolling rock or blue moon in my circles.

Not rare, but not everywhere.

Shiner is more well-known here in Texas...since it's brewed in Texas.

At any rate, the bottom of the CanCooker is flat...and the little quick-start guide that came with it does list glass cooktops as a suitable heat source. YMMV.

The lid has a hole for steam to escape, it's not a sealed 'pressure cooker'.

I had three meals from that one batch....with a bit left over...sure was good!

I'm working on can-cooking salmon fillets...added some cajun seasoning, a cup of water, a bottle of hard lemonade, some canned carrots, a couple of small hand sliced tators, some dried onion...made a little rack...we will see what we will see!

Smells good already!

Yeah I looked up the can cooker and watched their promo video. NEVER on high it said. That's cool. Almost like a pressure cooker without a weight on it.

It's really neat that it's designed to add 12oz of "liquid". As if we needed another reason to keep an adult beverage on hand now we have one. :p

When I first saw them they reminded me of the milk can cooking episode i saw on America's test kitchen or cooks country. I get those 2 confused. They claimed after the switch was made away from metal milk cans then there was a surplus and can cookers were born.

Is yours anodized aluminum? I read that there are 2 versions. The anodized ones they say never come into contact with aluminum metal itself. I know some people aren't wild on the idea of aluminum being in food. (In baking powder for instance)

Yes it has a non-stick lining...so ya gotta use plastic or wooden stirring utensils....now, pardon me while I go have some lunch!

:p

So, 24 ounces of Shiner and 8 ounces of stew, right? Or was it 32 ounces to 8...
Math never was my thing.

It's a can of beer as the liquid. The rest is either veggies or meat. Or the remaining liquid is a mix of a can of beer and liquid that cooks out of the veggies/meat.

It's not really a recipe...you just toss in what ya got and apply heat. Then eat.

This afternoon I cut up a chicken breast into 4 slices and placed those inside the can cooker on the rack, then sliced up a potato, tossed that in, sprinkled in some seasoning, bread crumbs, rice, and bbq sauce slathered over the chicken breasts...plus about 20 ounces of water in the bottom.

I cooked that for about an hour and half and it sure was good!
