so question how much does your rig weight? what motor/trans?

how many mpg? is it under powered? for you

Following. I'm very un-mechanical and wouldn't know a turbo diesel from a flux capacitor. Yet I still plan to go the step van route.

My 1990 Grumman Olson GMC step van with the Cummins BT4 has logged about 2,000 miles so far. It is loud, I wear earplugs while on the freeway, but in the city it's fine. I have some noise killing mat to install to make it better.

It is not a speedy van, with the governor it tops out at 59-60 mph. When loaded with 3K pounds, it takes a 6-7 degree grade at about 40 mph in third. Not a problem with me, as it gets 16 mpg lugging those grades and I'm in no hurry to get where I'm going. When you consider that the van is used primarily for housing, the inconveniences are really minimal.

I plan on finishing my conversion in time for the RTR. Hope to see you all there.

I'm always amazed how many people who are selling or own step vans know so very little about them, but I have to admit I'm still learning about mine. I wish there was a forum dedicated to them on the internet. Thanks for your question.

I have a 1992 P30, Union City body w/ 12 ft cargo area.
10,000 GVWR, unknown curb weight.
350 Chevy TBI (throttle body Injection) with what I think is a Hydromatic 4L80-e automatic transmission.
If I had a way to upload a photograph I would.

I got about 10-12 MPG on a 1400 mile trip last year.

I too am looking forward to seeing who else responds.

PERFORMANCE:

It has decent power for me. I care more about durability, cost of upkeep, and MPG(within certain reasonable limits)

OTHER NOTES:
I had quite a bit of gear on the roof that probably had a negative impact on MPG, but I haven't tested mileage since then.

I too am looking forward to seeing who else responds.

I just acquired a 1974 GMC Value Van 3500 with the 350 and 4spd manual tranny (which needs a new clutch). I’m still waiting to get it titled and to pass inspection and then I’ll know more. But I did searches and the pics are a specification brochure etc for it.

I had 1 wheel in rear. I could not get bleeder open when I did all the brake lines. I have a new wheel cylinder to fix that.
