Broken water drain valve - Help.

Yesterday while working on the rear bed area, I managed to break a water drain valve.
I have done some searching, but havn`t found a replacement. With my luck, this valve
probably isn`t made anymore.

Does anyone know were I might find a replacement valve like this ?.

That looks like pex.

Lowes should have the parts.

Take pictures of the identification numbers and bring the broken parts with you.  It will probably be under $40.

Those parts run about $10 a fitting.  If you think you will be doing more plumbing ask about the tools.

I looked around on the net for something similar...not having much luck.

What about buying a plastic or brass T fitting, use hose clamps, and then use a short piece of hose attached to that with a plastic or brass ball valve?

Is there enough room to do that?

doesn't look like PEX to me it looks like the stuff they used before PEX can't think of the name at the moment. any tee and valve will work you just need it to seal. BTW I would try to ID the tubing the stuff before PEX has a short life and high failure rate. highdesertranger

I've got the grey tubing in my 1983 Barth and the rv parts place has stuff to adapt but it costs. I ended up getting fittings that were close and heating / cooling tubing and gluing with JB weld and securing with high pressure stainless steel clamps to adapt to standard fittings and letting it sit 24 hours with no pressure to cure. It has worked for 5 years so far without leaks but it ain't pretty.

I dont think thats Qest but it might be.

Back in 1988 I had a major failure of that **** in my house at the time, it caused $5000 worth of damage to my house while I was on the road.

It's the reason to this day that I turn off the water to my present house at the water meter when I leave town.

This house does not have Qest but you never know what can happen.

Yeah, Qest fixtures fail and crack after a while....there was a huge class action lawsuit but back in those days there was no internet so I knew nothing about it, neither did my insurance agent.

Sharkbite makes a fitting which will adapt from this line to a modern PEX, copper or CPVC line. Note that PB to PB adapters do not exist - they exist only in the form of PB to anything else, which is intentional because PB is garage material.

Were can I find these sharkbite fittings that adapt from the older water lines to the pex water line ?.

Would home depot have them ?. If not, I have another way that I can do it that should work just as well.

Lowes has the sharkbite parts.  

Bring photos.  The plumbing guys there know what to do.

This may be a good time to replace all the craplastic tubing.?? You may fix this valve, only to have others break?


If your replace that valve, make a protective box around it. Keep damage away in the future.

There is not a Lowes with in two hundred miles of were I live.
There is a Home Depot about seventy five mile from me, and I assume they would carry these parts ?.

Everywhere is at least 110 miles from me, Lowes and Home Depot 225 miles that is why I do so many JB weld repairs but as long as they work and it keeps me out of town I'm happy!

Yes that was a typo. I meant garbage material. There is no reason to ever put that PB tubing back so sharkbite makes their fittings adapt from it to something else - CPVC, PEX, or copper would all work.

Any decent hardware store should have something.

I just spent almost one hundred and thirty dollars on pex tubing, the crimping tool, clamps, and other fittings.
If I`m going to fix this, I`m going to do it right the first time.

I should have everything by the end of next week.

The valve is called a PR2 valve.
