Does anyone here do housesitting in order to take a break from vandwelling? If so, how has it worked out for you?

I think that is a great idea!! we looked into it and it seems there are a lot of possibilities to do this, we haven't done it yet but we are not vanning full time. Our plan in the next year or so is to do this, we were thinking this would be a great way to settle in an area do repairs, up grades, maybe work and stay warm in colder climates. good topic mr n

well how about animal sitting. I have done that a few times mainly horses. people are kind of finicky when it comes to their horses they like to know that their horses are in good hands and the person knows what to do in case of a problem. make a little money and the house is an extra. will do this for 2 weeks this july. highdesertranger

That would be cool for those who have experience with horses.

have a few friends doing dog sitting in combination with house sitting. they find it pays good enough and keeps them very busy. you need to establish a reputation then get refurals from friends and acquaintences.

I have a fellow vanner housesitting my house while I'm gone for several months. This person brings in the mail, keeps the yard mowed, makes the place look lived in. They had acquired a new to them van and needed a place to do the build out. I'm thrilled that someone is keeping an eye on things, they're thrilled to have a place to stay and work on their van. It's perfect for both of us.

What a great business this could be.

That's funny, I was just researching this the other night and thought about posting a similar question.

It does seem like it would be a great sharing option for travelers, such as temp van/truck/car/etc dwellers who who like to roam the country for weeks or even months at a time but have a home base to return to.

I've never done this so I would have no references for such experience.... but I would gladly consider the opportunity to to gain the references (fee free). Excluding the business/income aspects of it (with exception of a contractual agreement to cover both parties butt, if ever needed) I'm thinking more in line with fellow travels helping out each other, such as Stargazer has mentioned above.... I'd bet that they're more out there already with this type arrangement with fellow travelers.

I'm not saying I'd like to do it for months at a time, but a week or two wouldn't be bad at all. If and when I start traveling again, a little R&R in a new place after being on the road for awhile, and at the same time holding down the fort for a fellow traveler who's out exploring - It's just an awesome concept
