Been looking for a good deal on a Chevy / GMC extended van.

They are infrequent and go quickly.

Found a 2012 / 62K for $9500. Missed out on it.

Looked at some older / cheaper ones with like 125K or so miles. The problem I have found with older vans is they seem to have a lot of front-end, motor/tranny mount issues. So they weren't really good deals.

Just came across a 2005 GMC Savana Cutaway box truck with 80K miles.

I see many advantages over a van, but I have to assume they get worse gas mileage and just aren't stealthy. Those are kind of more importance to me.

Anyway, anyone using a box truck?

There are several members here who own these.

I sure was looking at these awhile back. The vertical walls and roomy interior just beg for a conversion.

But in my state, Texas, there are a lot of hurdles for registration and insurance, plus, towing capacity is limited since most of them have the smaller V8 or V6, so I went with something else.

In your online searches, try using the term 'cutaway cube van'...the industry term for these vehicles, and you will find a lot of these available, especially on the east and west coast.

There's a 10 y.o. 27' ex U-Haul with an 8.1L gasser I've got my eyes on, 4000 mi since reco crate engine installed.

Should tow anything you like.

He's asking $15+K atm, hoping to knock him down.

Other side of the country too. . .

That 27' U-Haul would actually be a box truck, of course.

My post above was in reference to the OP's picture of a cutaway cube van.

In Nevada it is also nearly impossible to get insurance for a commercial vehicle if you do not have a business. Even if you modify it and get the DMV to give you an RV title, insurance here does not like DIY RV's.
Take the VIN number and see if you can get an insurance carrier in your State of residence.

In Montana that would be registered as a normal vehicle as there is nothing commercial about it. It would also be insured as a regular vehicle too since it wouldn't be used for business or profit. And since that '05 is more than 11 years old, you can get permanent plates for it for around $250.
