Looking for a roof vent to use during the cold winter months, has to be weatherproof and would like to have a fan in it as well. I wasn't really sure what to even search for on google. TIA!

not sure what you are expecting when you say "the cold winter months". none of them will keep the cold out when open. seeing how hot air rises they also let the heat out. they do make a cover for them that allows you to keep the vent open during a rain storm, is that what you are looking for? highdesertranger

MaxxAir or Fantastic Fan.

nothing special for cold weather, just use passive or lowest setting then

I’ve used Reflectix tucked in the vent to reduce heat loss when not using the fan.
Certain there are more extensive ways to temporarily insulate the fan area.

Thanks for the info guys! Yeah just looking for something to insure rain and snow will not get into the vehicle. I know heat rises but thank you. Was considering cutting a piece of foam insulation to size while I am not using the vent.

I carry a smaller square throw pillow that I sometimes use behind my back or head when sitting. It is thick and a little larger than the vent. I use a couple of small bungee cords to hold it against the vent for insulation. I get double duty out of it that way and it's decorative on top of it all.

I believe the higher-end MaxxAir units have an integrated cover, so no need for an add-on.

Some may be lower-profile and therefore lower the maximum CFM ?

I have a MaxxAir vent (model 5000 I think), like this but with manual controls:

I have had it wide open in driving rain without water intrusion.  Noisy on high but will suck out beagle farts really fast.  Supposed to be able to run it with the vent closed as a ceiling fan but I have never tried it.

It is easy to make an insulating vent cover, but also commercial ones.

Thanks for the review spaceman, that's exactly the style I was looking at for my van. Is it possible to have the vent in the fully down position but still keep the vent open? I'm mostly worried because my van has no other windows, I need some sort of ventilation

I ended up going with the maxxair with integrated rain cover. 10 speed control settings and a thermostat, which I believe you can set to maintain a consistent temp? I like the 10 speed because it uses very minimal amps on the lowest setting.
