I just spent my grocery money on red beans and rice, cooking oil, protein powder drinks, orange juice, some fresh veg and some keepers. In winter there is nothing better than fried yams, the natural sugar comes out and makes that crispy part. And apples for pie on Thanksgiving.

I am stocking more than a month supply of drinking water. And I have a water filter in the van, small pump type.

I wanted to stock up on paper products and meat but better luck next time.

I missed training this fall & will need to step it up there.

Stocked up on cleaning supplies and face masks. Need to buy more hand sanitizer.

I have appropriate clothing to be able to live here without running the heat.

I decided it was a good time to really retire and continue to simplify my life. As shortages come up I try to use things I already have or substitute items. My last resort is buying something. We have gotten to a point trips to town to resupply are every 3 months but with the pandemic I have been using the internet and haven’t been to town since February. Reminds me I need to go fishing! Fluids for the car are expensive to buy and ship over the internet so eventually I will either go get them and stock up or buy thru the NAPA store that actually delivers to us for retail plus 15% that is over 100 miles away. He usually comes on a Thursday at least once a month unless he gets a big order. Never ceases to amaze me the services some NAPA stores have! My neighbor gardens as a hobby and always grows more than he can use so we trade some. I just got a box full of sweet potatoes and a spaghetti squash for a spare ground fault reciprocal I had, life is good!

yep Napa are usually great part stores. I have had 2 different Napa stores let me use their machine shop on 2 different occasions. you just don't see that in this day and age. their parts used to be of superior quality however it seems lately that they are selling the same Chinese junk as everyone else. except for the Napa Gold brand of filters these are rebranded Wix filters and are top of the line. highdesertranger

Beans and rice here, too. Also pasta, flour, tuna and salmon packets, extra misc. canned goods, coffee, dry milk.

The small freezer is chock full of frozen veggies, fish and ground turkey.

Hand sanitizer,TP.

I've cut my trips into town down to every 10 days or so to limit exposure.

I'm bored to tears though.

In stores also except for Walmart.  I went into an Autozone to get a quart of synthetic 10w30 for my generator and for Mobil 1 it was $11.49!

Wow it takes excellent planning to do that.

Bought 50 pounds of pinto beans and 40 pounds of rice and some jerky to sliver into the beans and rice!!!!
That jerky will really add flavor, there is a reason for the hot andouille sausage in red beans and rice, you never get tired of eating it.

Good to know that this type of arrangement is possible with the Napa stores.  -crofter

The reason I have used jerky for years now is 1. It tastes good 2. Light weight and does not require refrigeration. A bag of jerky a few pounds of pinto beans and a few pounds of rice in your backpack and you are good for a little while.

Andouille... drool.  Thanks Crofter!

We have TP stored in the tornado shelter, which I think is appropriate since we'll need it if another winter tornado comes through!

Don't forget, you can pasteurize water with a solar cooker (even a reflective windshield shade).  Just had to get that in .

Are you in tornado alley or one of the less frequent twister spots? I lived in WY which is not in tornado alley, but spent plenty of time in the basement waiting it out.

Tell us more about making a solar water pasturizer from a windshield shade. Would plain reflectix also work?

NOTE TO SELF.............Park upwind from GypsyJoe........

We are trying to clear out some older canned goods. My wife never rotates, just puts the new stuff in front. So the last can of tomato paste from 2008 never gets used. Since I retired and have time I rotated everything. She punctured a can to open it only to have it explode and cover her with dark red tomato paste yesterday. I’m not sure if it’s safe to go home till she leaves for work today! Lol!!!
