Location
On the road for summer
We just completed a tour down Oregon 101 and are now in Cresent City, Ca. Sitting here looking at the map to see where we wanna go from here. We thought of going east from Arcata, but thinking of going south on 101 for a while longer.

Anyone here located in the Eureka area??

The thought is to turn east at Redwood Valley and go thru Yuba City to Sparks/Reno.

Anyone located along that route?

All hints accepted, as this is my first trip out here in 40 years.
We always enjoy meeting other members in our travels.

Thanks for replies :)

Sorry I can't help. Didn't MilkHauler mention he goes up and down CA a lot for his truck-driving work?

I haven't seen posts by him a in a while though. Perhaps send him a PM???

Didn't think of Milky. Maybe I'll shoot him a note.

With temps south of here we don't wanna move too quickly and its hot inland too.
Cresent City seems to be traveler friendly, as we see rigs parked over night in several lots here. We can hang here for a little while, I guess.
And, the marina has showers too :)

Bindi,et al : The way you wrote "Sparks/Reno" reminded me of the old joke........Reno ! It's not Hell but it's so close you can see Sparks.

If you head south from Reno, the Carson Nugget in downtown Carson City allows free RV parking for a few days. The state museum and a small museum are only a couple of blocks away, and a railway museum is a few miles. Virginia City is mostly tourist traps, but is kind of interesting if you like that type of thing. (See my blog entry.)

I kinda like HWY 96 it follows the Klamath River. I am kinda biased though because the Klamath carries gold the whole length in kalifornia. however it's going to be pretty hot like you said. right now at 5:40 PM 9/8/15 it's 95 degrees in Happy Camp. about 1/2 way between the coast and the I-5. good luck with whatever you decide and be safe. highdesertranger

Okay.. now the mention of marinas and showers has me remembering that Al Christiansen (sp?) has been hanging on the coast up and down from OR to San Fran -- many times at marinas. Not sure which ones might be near you or be of interest, but you may want to check out his short reviews over the past several weeks:

Thanx Blars...we like museums and free parking.

HDR...I can understand your attraction to 96, kinda out of our path for now.

Since this town is kind about parking I think we'll hang here a few days. Hope Arcata is the same. Would like to sample some of that Humboldt green stuff while there.
