I just got a new to me Nikon L830 And wondered what all the settings are for.Like 2400x 1260 or 780x460.Does this have to do with shutter speed? If so which way is faster, higher or lower?70 years old and this is my first camera.Maybe I should just set it on auto and leave it?

Bob those settings are the size of the picture recorded, think of it as your final print like a 4 X 6 or a 5 X 7 and 8 X 10. The larger those numbers the larger the possible print from your photo. Also more detail is captured. That's a nice little camera you got, and frankly the manual should be pretty good on explaining the features and how to use them. I heard ya, 70 years old, but just take it slow and experiment with them one at a time. it will start to make sense.

If not look for a local photography club where ever your hanging out, I'm sure you would get some really great free advice.

Thanks for the info guys.I've been reading more in the manual and I even understand some of it.Evidently I've got 18 scene settings from portrait to fireworks,so I think for now I'll use the scene settings and let the camera figure it out. Thanks again,Bob

I'm really liking this camera since I have been able to figure some of it out. When a doofus like me can take great pictures,it has to be the camera doing it.Maybe someday I'll learn how to put pictures on here.
