Ok so I have be dangerously thinking and please remember I am new at all of this... so if it sounds like common sense it isn't for all of us. =)

Since I am so weak, how will I be able to fill my water tank without removing it from the van? the easiest way please. And how can I do it on the road? I am even worried about being about to life a 5 gallon solar water bag =(

Need a water or cabana boy

Hose -- with short lengths to the tank with valves and cap ?
Ricekila,

A cabana boy? Does Home Depot rent those?

Ann

Go to the Freeport Home Depot - any given morning theres about 500 of them milling around

But I'm way taller with blue eyes

Yeah I need a cabana boy LOL

Even with those hand trucks it is still hard to get it in the van =(

I was thinking about the hose idea but where would you be able to use it on the road? I think I am going to have to do it a gallon at a time and I have no clue about hanging up that shower bag!! It is going to be a whole job just getting it up to hang LOL I will definitely need a shower after trying to get that up there LOL.

I thought about the spigot idea out the back of the van but I have never seen a larger container with one... well more than 2 gallons. So I will have to get out more and look LOL

I hope someone has a great workable idea for us ladies HuggZ

Most gas stations I've been to have an outside water faucet, so just drive up 'n hook up your hose. Carry a pair of Vice-Grips with you in case the handgrip on the top is missing. ..Willy.

You could also look into dehydrated water, much lighter and easier to lug around.

omgosh dehydrated water a guy hiking on the AT same time as me has a ziplock bag fill...teehee

i am so anxious to share with u guys n gals. 1 step closer today so having lunch w yall

I saw where a guy had a ladder rack or something on his van. he turned a big piece of black pvc pipe into a shower/water tank on the roof. he even had a shower faucet. opened back doors n hooked a tarp round and opened faucet.
another light weight idea is th Sea to Summit portable shower to which you can add hot water you boilled or watever.
dont forget wash basins and pta baths they work.
and im thinking of putting the bigger jugs as close to the door as i can.

soon soon
enjoy lunch
IGBT,

ummmm...I laughed, then I stopped laughing and thought, "Really?" Then I actually googled "dehydrated water", just in case "can it be??" there's some new technology??? What? Add oxygen to hydrogen?

Ya got me...

Ann

heh heh, sorry Ann, I was in a silly mood.

I would go with the one gallon jug at a time refill method for you Mort. Mainly because it's easy and you will regain strength from however many trips it takes over time.

Had to laugh at this one, 'cause I have a full seven gallon Aquatainer in the back of my van that's been there since my Big Bend trip in April.

Last night I went to pull it out to empty and sanitize, gave it a tug, closed the doors and went back in the house to pout. It does have a spigot (many do, Mortisha; some are hidden in the lid) and I could have tipped it down and emptied it in the street, but water is precious and West Nile rampant in this area.

I usually just carry a 2-1/2 gallon Igloo and a few gallon jugs unless I'll be far between services. I rarely go anywhere in any vehicle without at least a gallon.

Haven't used a shower bag because of doubts about anything short of a tree limb supporting it, and I'm short-ish. I hope someone who has used one of these solar showers can fill us in. The back door idea is a possibility, but Moby is a Chevy Express. It has a hinge type that does not support extra weight well, so I probably wouldn't do that with a full bag.

Five gallons is more than I've ever needed for a shower. I usually manage with a basin bath or campground showers. Sometimes I use a 12 volt pump/shower head that Rom told me about some time back. Works great in a pop-up privy enclosure with a Sterlite tote. I usually pump the gray water into an empty kitty litter jug (strained through a knee high stocking), which is easy to carry to a pit toilet or other acceptable disposal site.

I agree more every day with the KISS concept!

Vickie

Ok you all had me laughing I almost peed my pants LOL (sorry if I am not allowed to use the word pee) LOL

I thought about using the collapsible dog bath tub but then of course worried how I could pick that thing up and move it to drain it LOL. Maybe I will try to use the solar shower bag but only put in a gallon at a time and I don't think I will need the whole 5 gallons as suggested Thanks

I have seen on rv's they have the little hole in the side to refill the water maybe I could do a hose of some sort with a funnel to fill it on the outside while the tank is inside LOL.

I think I am just going to bath outside nude with nothing but rain and biodegradable soap LOL

HuggZ

I use a solar shower when Im in the woods. I stand on my cooler and tie a rope around the tree and hook the shower to that. For you ladies, you can buy a small block and tackle setup. they are small, and cost under ten dollars. Just hook it to the rope on the tree and hoist the bag up and tie off the rope.
They have a few pullies and you can lift a couple hundred pounds with one hand.

I don't care much for the solar shower myself. Im thinking about switching to a five gallon bucket with a fountain pump. I can leave the bucket on the ground and just use a hose with a shower head on the end.

The five gallon bucket on the ground with the hose may work =) Thanks Sidat I will have to check into that to see if it would work for me. If not I am going back to the cabana boy idea LOL

HuggZ

Ok -- all joking aside - whats your set up now ?

And what are you looing to do ?

I've been doing the wet nap things, and borrowing friend's showers as I visit them. Not a really great LONG term solution, but it's been working so for for me

I'll probably 'upgrade' to the spray bottle and towel method that's been talked about next time I find a cheap spray bottle for sale, or if I run out of bathroom lending friends, then I may have to do it sooner

@Mortisha, I've been urban dwelling so far, I'm not sure that I'd be welcome doing the whole nude rain shower thing (or TOO welcome, lol), but once I get out in nature, that's definitely a possibility! When I was homeless I would shower by taking a swim in the river I was close to, clothes and all.

My upper body strength is pretty good, but I play WC basketball I would say, they make little hand pumps for water or whatever liquid. They also have 12V water pumps for RV's or for fish ponds. either one would probably work great. They also have bigger pumps, for getting water up out of a stream or something. Then you can move water wherever you can get a hose!

With Love,
Tara
