Hello All!
Where to begin..........

Im Kelly, and the better 2/3 is Teresa. It all started about 2 years ago. We sold our home and bought a 40' 3 slide 5th wheel to live in until retirement. We just figured that way we would have a jump on it. Shortly after moving in to the 5ver, Teresa got injured at work. While she was off work, we talked alot about retirement and decided the 5ver was to big and to heavy to drag around. Empty weight was just over 16k. The F350 diesel dually had no problem, but definitely gave it a workout. So we decided to go smaller. Our first thought was trying out a van as we had just found this website. After looking around, we decided for 2 of us, it was to small. Next was the truck camper. We found a nice one, but a little shorter than we wanted, but bought it anyways. It was ok for a weekend out, but for full time living, nope, not for us. Plus our fat little Pug couldnt get up and down from the bed. We sold that and moved up to a 25' 5ver with no slide. Again, no go. So we sold it too! We talked and thought "lets try a bigger truck camper". So we found a large one, and bought that. Made a few trips out with it, and again, the Pug had issues. And she kind of rules the house! So we went back to yet another 25' 5ver, but with a higher roof and bedroom area. It seemed that that was going to work for us. Then we figured out, "this thing has absolutely no storage. I know what your thinking...."try storage in a van". Were just not minimalists, and dont really want to be. We like our stuff. So it was time for that one to go. We finally settled on the 5ver we have now. It 32' with 2 slides. It suits our needs. So then we sold the big 5th wheel, sold the car, went to our storage unit, loaded it all up and hauled to the dump. In the middle of all this, Teresa retired from the state of Oregon, I retired in Jan because of health issues, and we started making the big plan happen. Im a retired truck driver/diesel mechanic and still have all my tools in the truck, probably more than any one person should be packing around! But if you need something, I probably have it. We spent a couple weeks this last Jan in Ehrenberg. We were there during the RTR, but didnt go as we are both extreme introverts. We have our trailer all setup with solar, good battery bank, and will be in AZ for the winter. Most likely around Ehrenberg again. Were not into the whole rv park thing and prefer to boondock out away from the crowds. We might try for the RTR this year, but will see how it goes. We will be leaving here around the 1st of Sep. Maybe we will run into one or two of you in the desert. Just dont all come at once, it hurts our brain when to many people show up! We'll have the coffee on. Safe Travels..........

Sorry for the long post, but if the mods want to move, feel free!!!

Welcome!
Wow youve had quite the RV shopping.
Hopefully this one works out for you

I have wondered about the coming RTR too. I really want to meet everyone, but I just don't "do" crowds. So, it is a concern for me also.

After seeing some videos from last January RTR...it made it look like a neighborhood in Brooklyn! Almost scared me off. People here explained that there was some issue with people "intrudin" but not serious nor widespread. Still..I think I will visit but not stay. There is so much there to learn and people with a lot of knowledge...I think that for me it would be a mistake to skip it altogether. But, with all the experience you two have....you might not see the same value that I do.

Maybe I will travel over to the RTR for a day, then scoot back to ehrenberg.

Welcome Kelly to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you. highdesertranger

Welcome aboard!
If you decide to go to the RTR , you can park out away from the crowds and just go in for however long you're comfortable with.
No rules on attendance .
Everything is optional.
You'll make new friends <<<<<<<<.
Lots of the gang break up into smaller groups after RTR and make small camps
all over the desert .

The RTR is in a big desert!! You can camp further out and feel almost alone, and then make quick trips into the main camp for the things that are important to you. You really can find the best of both worlds there!

Hi I'm Teresa , Kelly's other 1/2. We are so excited about escaping. We've lived in an RV park in Oregon for 2 years. We planned on staying here till retirement age. I worked for the State. Unfortunately I was injured last June at work and have been doing the whole messed up wc thing. I'm not as healed as I wanted, but accepting it, i was let go from my long time employment. during this time Kelly was facing some major health issues. We were stuck. We camped whenever possible to get out amongst nature..the best way to heal..but never could stay long enough...our dream was to boondock, primitive camping. No RV park...
We've got it almost done here and pray we can get out of here the end of September. We need to escape the rat trap of city society. We've been existing and not living. Kelly and I have decided it would be wiser to start living again, do what we love and travel , boondock AZ in winter and stop sitting here trapped waiting to die

Sounds like a great plan!
