My Dodge Journey has under-the-floor compartments in the floor of the second row passenger seats.

Would it be safe to house/run an AGM battery in there? From inside, there's a heavy plastic bucket that is fit to size in the compartment. I haven't had a chance to examine it from underneath, but I assume the compartment is metal and I don't know yet whether it has any sort of reinforcement.

I'm not so much concerned about the weight (until I can examine it further),  but rather the health of the battery. As for my own health, my understanding is they don't out-gas? If it sounds reasonable to store it in there, should I be adding ventilation to the compartment? Thanks!

The gassing is usually very small.  Since you can't add distilled water gassing, separating water into oxygen and hydrogen by electrolysis, will quickly deplete and ruin the battery.  The valve regulated pressure helps the oxygen and hydrogen recombine.  Gassing will happen if you charge a full battery at a high charge rate particularly if you get the battery hot.  A small solar system like my 100 watt panel doesn't have the capacity to cause an unsafe level of gassing.  If you hook it up to the vehicle alternator and if the alternator's voltage regulator fails and if the charging cable is short enough and fat enough and if the unregulated voltage gets high enough without killing the engine computerized fuel injection and if you are driving with all the windows up and the air conditioner is set to recirculate then it could be a problem.

If the battery is not too tall just put it in one of the compartments.Agm doesn't off gas.

Nice thing about AGM's is you can lay them on their side to make them fit if you have to. My AGM batteries are inside with me and never a problem. They are inside the kitchen cabinet on the floor.
