Hi all, I have been shopping for my first van for several weeks now. I have researched online, visited dealers in person and test drove my most likely suspects.
What I have found out is how disappointed I am with the current selection of vehicles available today.
I am looking for a van for part time camping an extended trip or two per year. I am not planning an extensive build at this time, just a slat bed and enough storage to keep things organized. It will also be my daily driver for the rest of my working days, about 6 years or so when I will go looking for a 3/4 ton can as a retirement gift.
I think I prefer a smaller van for thier lower purchase price and better fuel mileage unless maintainence costs make a larger van less expensive in the long run. I prefer simpler rigs without turbos or other items that will increase costs. Where I live anything I buy will only last 8-10 years due to corrosion cause by ice melting agents used on the roads during winter.
I looked a Fords Transit and Transit Connect, the Ram Promaster City and Nissans NV200 and What I found was this, all vehicles now have aluminum engine blocks including the 3.7 liter V6 in the Transit.
