Hello everyone.
My name is Ron, I am 55 yrs old and getting ready to hit the road. I am looking for my first travel home as I type. I am going to travel for the rest of my life and I hope it will be a long time. I love gold prospecting and metal detecting and am going to plan my travels around these activities.
I am looking for a class C 29 FT or larger.
Any suggestions or opinions on a different style of travel?

Hello and welcome!

I'd guess prospecting would take you to some more remote places? If that's the case you might be a bit big at 29', have you considered a smaller Class B? Might give you more opportunities to roam.

Welcome! As Queen has suggested, you will need to go places where high clearance and four-wheel drive may be necessary.  I would recommend a truck camper. Or you could get a Tiger, like mine.  :)

I love being remote and I promise 80% of the places I go you can't go with a big Class C.

In the winter you are going to want to prospect the Arizona and New Mexico desert and having 4x4 would be a HUGE advantage in the gullies and sand.

My recomendation: a 4x4 pickup towing a 6x12 cargo trailer. Take the trailer as far as it will go, (which is pretty far!!) and set up camp. Then take the truck deeper into where the gold is.

All good advice, or a quadravan, or get your shorter class A or C and tow a Suzuki Samurai or an older Jeep CJ. Any class C can pull one. Just get a real transfer case vehicle so you can flat tow.

Thanks for all the replies. I want the bigger class so that I can comfortably take my kids and grand kids along. I just need to get close to gold and can drive the rest of the way in. wont be taking the rig along for the ride. LOL

Hello Digger (perfect name for you!)

We have lots of gold prospecting going on out here in Western Oregon.

What part of the country are you located??

We had a class C and loved it!
