I have a chance to buy (really cheap) a 1999 airport shuttle bus but I'm getting conflicting research on whether I should buy it or not. Can I get a couple of opinions?

1999 fiberglass body
No body damage
300,000 miles
Will probably need a new motor
Regular maintenance records
We'll need to reregister it because it has expired tags.

With 300,000 miles I am sure it will need a LOT more then just a new motor, probably transmission, brakes, and front end parts, I think I would pass on it.

Does it run well enough to see how it stops, shifts and handles? Can you get it over to be thoroughly inspected by a knowledgeable mechanic? Might be a problem with expired tags.

Would you have much of a cash reserve if you had to shell out $6000 for an engine?

The quality of some rebuilt motors isn't so great. Check what kind of warranty you'd end up with.

Be careful with expired tags. In some states you may owe quite a bit in back taxes and penalties depending on how long it's been since they were renewed.
