Well after much consideration ive taken the first step. I'm 19 and just bought a 95 tahoe. It's a solid car (my dad's been a mechanic for almost 30 years) and it's a v8 with 154000 miles. I'm going to be stealth camping while I finish up community college (Main reason I went with a suv over a van. Not many vans parked on the street around here but tahoes are a dime a dozen) then I plan on bumming around the US working as a campground host and other seasonal jobs. (At like Amazon around Christmas and stuff) well I'm just posting to see if anyone has some advice or any words of wisdom I guess haha. I won't be moving into Peaches (my tahoe) until I get a second job and sell my current Honda. (I work one job now but it's one day a week for 5 hours. Barely pays for gas in my Honda hence the second job. hopefully I can work nights) and well yeah :)

Hi Kitt. Main thing I can say is read up a lot all over the forum. "Food, insulation, window coverings, mechanical, things that don't fit anywhere else" sections. You could read for days. You'll get more questions answered that way.

Will you have enough room even when you fold up the rear seats? Can you take them completely out and store them? It's at least as big as some minivans and certainly bigger than many cars so I guess if you minimalize your possessions and can cover your windows... Just remember ventilation, moisture from you breathing all night, move the vehicle every day or two for parking issues, (look into the ordinances there), find safe places for bathrooms, don't make it obvious via lights and activity that you sleep there... Get a friend to let you shower and spend some time away from the vehicle so you don't go stir crazy.

Maybe you'll decide to change vehicles to a van after you've seen how flexible they can be. it's easy to resell your Tahoe. I don't see many car or SUV dwellers. One lady lives in her Prius, there's creativity!

Once I take the headrests off the back seats they fold down completely flat :) plus I'm really short (I'm only 5'4") and I don't really own many clothes to begin with so downsizing isn't too big of an issue. And Tahoe's sell really fast down here. The only way I got mine was because I messaged the guy within 2 hours of him posting the ad. They sell within a week and most sell within a day. I had to drive 3 hours to look at mine. And thanks for the forum recommendations. Glad to have more reading material lol.

There was a "stealth in a Suburban" thread but I haven't read it.

I've read them both. They were both really interesting reads and both influenced why I picked my tahoe (well that and price and availibility haha)

I think the Tahoe is a good choice. I have a friend who lives in one and she is quite happy with it. Do you have 4x4 or a 4-door model?

I only have one post aobut SUVs and it is an older Blazer, but it may give you some ideas. Find it here:

Bob

I have the 4 door model. I couldn't find any 4x4 for sale in my price range around here. And yea that article was actually one of the first ones i read when I was looking into SUV's.

Well I'm having some trouble uploading some pictures (curse you smartphone!) so once I get on my laptop I will upload them :) just a quick pic of the exterior and the Inside :) I'm hoping I can get some better ones at a later date.

Got the front half picture fine Kitt. Looks pretty clean. That dark blue will soak up heat though so stay parked in shade if possible. Get window blocks for night or blackout shades, again, read up on it. Glad they resell quick, that way you have options. I did t know those seats fold flat, course you could fill a library with what I don't know, wait, that's what libraries are for!

Keep at it, since SUVs ride better than cargo vans you did well, plus, they can be parked anywhere without anyone thinking it's your residence, as long as you are careful. You go girl!

Hi and Welcome!! We be glad to hear of your adventures in Peaches. :)
