12VDC Magsafe 2 adaptor for MacBookPro 2014

I'm trying to power my MBP 15" Retina 2014 model with 12 VDC but no luck. They used to have the old airline Magsafe adaptor but that only works on earlier models of the MBP. The latest MBP has higher voltage requirement. Seems like Apple is a proprietary company and 3rd party products don't have a chance probably due to their outrageous licensing fee. I haven't seen any Chinese clones on the market yet. I noticed the energy loss of 15-25% when going through a typical inverter. That's a considerable loss of energy.

My dell has a third wire for a pin inside the barrel plug that requires some sort of voltage, otherwise the battery will not charge.

Thanks for the tip. I'll order the Magsafe cable only and your link should do the trick. Sticking in 12VDC domain seems to be a wiser choice since I don't have to go to an inverter which will loose at least 15% of energy.

Ok, with just two wires this can likely work. I brought up the third wire on my dell as my power cord itself has failed with this third wire breaking somewhere, and the unit would power the laptop but the laptop battery would NOT charge, so this device would do the same.

Just make sure polarity is correct, and that the voltage booster cannot be shorted with metal touching the bottom of the circuit board and that the wires cannot stress out the receptacles on the circuit board. So some sort of ventilated enclosure for the booster should be employed. Sometimes old wall wart transformers can have their guts removed and new ones installed into the casing This unit is about 2.125 x 2.125 by 1.25 inches thick.

I've only used mine so far for making 12v computer fans into hovercraft at about 28 volts.
There are higher wattage ones available but 150 should cover the macbook with room to spare.
