I dunno dude, I've got a 17 year old van with 150k on it. I don't think it's going to make it if I take it off road often. High performance shocks and struts are at least $800. Then you have to buy the polyurathane bushings, stiffer springs, braces such as strut tower, subframe connectors, etc...
Never mind the Ikea furniture, aren't you guys wrecking the hell out of your van's suspension going into the deep woods using unpaved roads? I can't imagine all the all of my stuff flying around everywhere. Replacing all the shocks, struts, bushings, etc. is expensive.
How important is this on a conversion van? Ripping it all out from the door jam, including the carpet trimming on the doors, yields some decent storage space for bottles, cleaners and other thin, tall items.
Will I lose significant insulation? Much more condensation? Thanks.
Man, 4 old dudes would beat 2 young, to middle age ones (and especially beat 1, young, extremely strong person), when it comes to transporting, unpacking and installing something like this, I would think. It looks like a ton of work and I doubt I'd want to tackle this with my limited skills.
It depends on how big the hole(s) are in your AC system.
When my AC started not blowing cold air, I recharged it with a $50 can that included (SOME) lubricant and sealer. This lasted for 2 years. After that, another can lasted 1 year. And then after around 4 years, it leaked within a few weeks...
It should last a VERY LONG TIME. We had this in one part of our MMA gym where we do our standup striking and Capoeira class. Granted that we trained barefoot on it, so no shoes.....it was still lots of movements, way more than what a vandweller would put on it. These stickon flooring sheets...
Good info, unfortunately, from watching tons and tons of ads on Craigslist, eBay, etc...for years...... there aren't many of these "REAL" hightops that you're talking about, available for sale, at a good price and in decent shape. It's mostly the "TV TOPS".
The hundreds, sitting at wrecking...
I don't think you can stand completely, straight up in an average, hightop conversion van if you're 5'10". Even after you gut the ceiling carpet and insulation. Maybe in one of those extremely high, hightops that they use for airport shuttles and such. But these are pretty rare.
I wonder what are the chances of getting roughed up by cops, like in the movies....where they abuse their power, plant drugs, etc...
Anyone ever been discriminated against? I'm a minority but have only been profiled a few times but that was when I was driving through known drug trafficking...
I like that, kind of like shifting the blame on the imaginary, lawyer friend. Lots of cops have egos and I'd rather not challenge them, even though I know that in the ring/cage, I'd whoop their ass (in general). I don't want to be like the a-holes who baits the cops while filming to get Youtube...
Been there, done that. The internet is not a new thing you know.
And I should hope that you didn't mean EVERY cop, because it would only take 1 good one to prove you wrong. I've heard of a hyperbole before too.
Sorry, but I don't believe you that LE is this corrupt. I'm sure it happens, but not on such a large scale like you're implying. I've been followed and pulled over a few times b/c I was driving in the 'hood and around known drug trafficking areas. The Cop saw that I wasn't high or...
Even in this case, I don't think I'd let them search neither. Vandwelling is pretty much a hidden sub-culture and most people don't understand it, including many cops, I bet...especially the Rookies. If I weren't on here to know about it, I'd think that Vandwellers are homeless or criminals if...
Train to fight, ie. MMA or Boxing. Mainstream MMA is the best. Punching someone in the face usually always work for defense and/or offense. Getting hit in the face regularly (and sometimes hard) as part of training is absolutely required in order to become effective at self defense.
Yeah, that's where most Used Car lots dump the cars that are so far gone that they can't sell, into auctions also. And they send out their own people to bid on their own cars to make sure they don't lose, and I bet most times, they win.
I used to go to a local auction religiously every...
Auctions are often a huge risk if you're buying something really cheap (like under $3000), b/c that's usually where people who can't sell their junk, dumps them too....including dealerships, etc.
If you're not using earplugs at all yet, then they will definitely help. The difference is enormous. Even better with the plugs + muff, but since you can't use those... disposable earplugs are pretty cheap at walmart.
Have you tried using earplugs? If that doesn't work, then earplugs and high quality ear muffs on top...the kind for shooting range. The good ones should be more comfy for sleeping. I used both at the range and it drowns out a lot of noise.
