No Insulation [Snowbird Hightop Van Build]

No trouble at all. We are a member of the coop with REI and they always have them in stock. "Most" outdoor stores have them in stock also.

No Insulation [Snowbird Hightop Van Build]

It sounds like you have a good plan laid out. I certainly understand trying to find a minimum viable setup that works for you. If you can make it work then I say go for it! Everyone of us has different ideas about how we want our vans set up and there is no "one correct way". The way we have...

No Insulation [Snowbird Hightop Van Build]

We "personally" can't do what we do without insulation. Every single nook and cranny is filled with Havelock wool. This prevents the dreaded moisture problem that you bring up. Behind every wall that we could insulate there is Havelock wool. It is, as you bring up, expensive. But here is the way...

How do u live on $700/month, truly?

What will you be doing at Wall Drug? I been there many times. Always a neat place to visit after traveling through the Badlands. I love traveling through South Dakota. Something about all of those rolling hills just makes it beautiful.

No kidding right? It's amazing how much more expensive some things have become.

How do u live on $700/month, truly?

My friend... You and I will have to agree to disagree on this. I don't even know where to begin with you but I'll give it a shot. Going so far as calling things "slavery" when they clearly are not? I don't know what post you read that made you think that anyone on here is advocating making...

How do u live on $700/month, truly?

Thanks. She worked very hard to get to where she is right now and I couldn't be more proud of her accomplishments. I've found that living in such a small space that it really makes you think twice "do I really need this?" 99% of the time the answer is no. Honest the only fluctuation that we...

How did you end up on the road, and why are you still here?

Our story just hit us as a surprise more than anything. To be quite honest? I didn't know anything about "Van Life". I never knew it was a thing. I've posted this elsewhere in the forums but I retired after 28 years on the FD at the age of 48. The FD is 28 and out. I was seriously injured in a...

Well... You took that to the extreme didn't you? Slavery? Really? Here's the deal... There is no magic bullet that will fix what is now almost a century old problem. And NO ONE is arguing that a Dr. shouldn't get paid for their time, expertise, or whatever they specialize in. In...

I agree. But it sure does cost a lot lol

That's kind of the issue we face right now. Not so much with assets since we don't own land or a house anymore. The vast majority of that money went into our investments. We have money we can pull out of an emergency fund that doesn't count as income. But that money isn't making us any money...

Exactly the situation I'm in with SSD. I "qualify" but, I paid so little into SS I get no pay for SSD and that's fine. I didn't pay into it so I don't deserve any pay just because I had to take a disability retirement. I spent my entire career putting as much money into my retirement system...

I like that! I might have to pick one of those up. Not only for the occasional cooking but it would be nice that you can create a small campfire also (weather permitting).

Oh... And Jetboil camp stoves are great for just cooking a quick meal outside. The cost of entry is the barrier to those though. But the fuel canisters for them are cheap and it's a quick way to cook a small meal outside under the stars.

We were exempt from SS on the FD. Instead we paid into our pension system and medicare. The only time I've paid into SS is when I was a teenager working for minimum wage, some odd jobs when I was in college, and about 8 months after I graduated college with my degree. The 28 years I worked on...

I agree with you. The issue is insurance. Before insurance came into play, healthcare was afforded to pretty much anyone that could make it to a Dr. (or the Dr. could make it to you). Once the chargemaster for hospitals came into play, healthcare costs rose exponentially. And it was all because...

Oh... I've read them and I agree with you. I've just stayed out of the conversation (for a while) since I mentioned that "we" can't live on $700 a month. What I said seemed to ruffle some feathers but it is what it is. We can't live on $700 a month. I suppose if we were "forced" to we would have...

Long van roof top cargo box/pod wanted

That box is way behind the solar panels on a Revel. It would have as much effect as the A/C does pointed in the right direction. Meaning no effect at all.

Is this what you are looking for? I know there is another video where he talks about this box on his Revel. IIRC, I think he said he got it at Lowes or Home Depot? This looks like the one he has up there. He just added "L" brackets to the box and it is mounted where you wanted it.

What kinds of guitars do you have? I've always had an affinity towards Fender. In fact all my guitars are Fenders. But once we hit the road, unfortunately they won't be able to come with us. So I'm thinking of picking up a Martin LX1E since it will be small body acoustic that is small enough to...
