    2017-2018 Chevy Express/GMC Safari

I believe the 2003-2007 vans used the Gen III motors for the vortec 4.8, 5.3 and the 6.0 and someone correc me if i am wrong, but the 2010 and newer GM vans use the Gen IV motors....

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

Yeah, it's just like BW says, always, always, always get a pre-buyer inspection done on a vehicle. Unless you are somewhat of a mechanic yourself.

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

Hahaha-haha! That is true. We all had to pay something for our set of wheels. Yeah, I believe the 2017 even tho it's only 6 years old at the most is still without a warranty, just cause I believe it's a 5 year/x number of miles for a warranty when it's brand new, right?

first comment in almost 5 years. Lol. I believe GM only out the 5.3 in their 1500 vans with awd, for the non awd 1500 vans they put the 4.3 v6 in them. Strange how the 5.3 was never put in a 2500 or 3500.

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

FWIW When I drove thru Canada to get to Alaska in my 2004 1500 cargo van with awd, you better believe I felt every bump and pothole in the road when I drove up the Alcan! I would think a 2500 (3500) would be better at masking the bumps felt in the road.

Seeking advice on a Chevy Express / GMC Savana

If i was going with an extended wheelbase van, I would probably go with the 3500 extended, instead of the 2500 extended. Always gotta think about re-saleability. I'd also be curious to know how much this new van is going to cost you, $45k? I'm sure there are dealers still out there still going...

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

what do you mean by "stiff"? oh, I just remembered, at the hotel I stayed at in May/June of 2022, I believe they had a Ford extended passeneger van which was an e350, it was a comfortable, decent ride.

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

I agree. although for all the 2003 to 2009 GM vans, those were all 4 speed I'm pretty sure. The 2004 GM van I'm driving right now is a 4 speed. I would think that with the newer 6 speed transmissions that the vans with those get a little bit better gas mileage, cause of the higher number of...

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

I agree that a 2500 would be the sweet spot, however I've seen plenty of people on social media, with older 90's era Ford econoline vans that are e350s, I even saw one guy with a Ford extended van e350 with the 7.3 diesel. as of right now, the choice is between a 2017 van, 2500, 6.0, 6 speed...

What do you think of a 2500 van versus a 3500 van? Any differences, pros and cons?

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

"There will be other vans but it's hard to wait." This is true. As for air bags, I'm not sure I've ever had to use those, let alone seen them used in real life!

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

Currently I have a half-ton van with awd. Drove thru Canada to Alaska with it. Felt every bump on the way up. I just miss the sturdiness and firmness of a 3/4 ton or better van.

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

I can pay cash for it, however that would wipe out most of my cash reserves that it has taken me months to save up. Why spend most of your money on a van then have none left, when you could just take out an auto loan on it and keep your money and then have peace of mind? Yeah, but what i'm...

    2017 Van versus 2006 Van

Currently, (April 2nd, 2023), I have my eye on 2 vans. One is a 2017 GMC Savana 2500, 6.0, 6 speed transmission, barn doors, G80 Locking Rear Differential, 53,100 miles, the household power outlet, 1 owner and the guy wants $30,000 or so for it. It's really clean (from the pictures, I haven't...

do you know if you can take the g80 Eaton locking rear differential from another gm vehicle and put it in one of these vans? I think that would be costly, probably just best to get one with the g80 locking rear diff already in it.

damn shame they're holding firm on the 5k markup. dealers are scum of the earth.

Yeah, getting and driving a cargo van as a personal vehicle can be a tricky game imo. A lot of financial institutions won't lend on cargo van cause they consider it to be "commercial " cause it has 2 seats smh.

1 Yeah, AFAIK, the only way to tell if it has the g80 option for the Eaton automatic locking rear diff is by giving the vin to a gm or chevy dealer and they look it up for you and give you the build sheet. probably a rare feature, that's just a guess. Plus, it would get old rather quickly...

Opinions on the 2017 GMC Savana 2500

Finally someone gets it. The V6 "EcoBoost" motors that Ford puts in their full size transit vans are not really built for towing. I'm up here in Fairbanks, Alaska (Currently January 2023) and starting to see some of the newer awd Ford transit vans running around (in town and on Eilson Air Force...
