Thanks to everyone that responded. You pretty much talked me out of a diesel. Think I'm going to focus on a hightop Transit or Promaster. Still very early in my research and still more to learn. Thanks again for all comments.
Florida is now a Compact state which allows you to practice in 34 states with 4 more states pending legislation . Unfortunately AZ, CA, OR, or WA are not.
Very interesting thread. I can take something away from all of your posts. It definitely is about individuality. Both seeking it and expressing it while agreeing to disagree at times. A politician once said, "If you agree with me 7 out of 10 times...Great! If you agree with me 10 out of...
Hmmmm? Sounds like maybe a Transit would be a better way to go for price and parts availability. My desire is a hightop whatever I get and of course dependability (of course everything breaks down at some point and to some degree). Thanks all for being my sounding board!
Never thought about it in those terms. Thanks. My problem is that I don't know what I don't know and what questions to even ask. No experience with Diesel engines except the ones in an M60 tank and that was a long time ago. LOL
During my research and looking at sprinter vans, I've seen Diesel engine mileage up to 900,000 miles. I've been under the impression that Diesel engines last a long time (that's why our trucking industry uses them), but what is a reasonable amount of miles to buy used? Any thoughts would be...
Once I head out there won't be any friends or family close. I have seen that there is a site that is like an airbnb for pets. I'll probably leave him with my sister for the first few months while I work out all the many things I'm sure that I should have thought of.
Roamer and Carestock....Thanks so much for the support and advice. My main concern is when I have to leave him in the van. I know I can make sure I stay in climates where a good ventilation setup or even a/c would work and that I can even monitor it via phone, but...still the thought of...
I understand it being work sometimes. In Key Largo I would always get friends or friends of friends wanting me to certify them for free. I did it a couple of times, but finally had to make a rule to just say no. Real friends would understand. Do you still get a chance to dive? My last time...
Wow! I started in 1980 and got my Divemaster before going into the army. Stopped counting dives after 3000. Didn't see the point or effort. Where and what type of SAR work did you do Queen?
I guess I will have to get the leash out for him Roamer. He has a strong will, so it will definitely be interesting.
Yes Queen, definitely a diver! PADI instructor in Key Largo for 5 years. I miss it. How about you?
Howdy everyone!
I've been a peripatetic nomad all my life, but was doing it within the "rules" of society. Many careers with success, but got bored and needed a new adventure after each one. Vandwelling will be my last great adventure I hope. I'm in the early process of educating myself...
