I've been using a Panasonic Lumix fz300. It's water and dust sealed, has a 600mm equivalent zoom, and is less than $400 bucks. Oh, and it shoots 4k video. I use Adobe Lightroom to "develop" the photos if they need any tweaking. I too come from the old film development days. Sent from my...

    Waiting out in Havasu

Yes, I am waiting until after the "big blow" Sunday. The Dark Sky web site has a 7 day forecast which I hope is accurate. I am chasing 70 degrees and am looking for that in Pahrump before I commit. [emoji23][emoji120] Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk

    Pahrump in March?

Probably. When I did caravan zooms, April was when HOWA folks moved north. Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk

Anyone tried the cheap knock-off Chinese LI 100a batteries?

The only 2 batteries I'd look at are the Battle Born Lithium and Renogy Smart Lithium. Your going to pay a lot, but you won't need a battery for many years to come. Keep in mind Lithium batteries don't like cold temps, but neither do I, so we never have a conflict. Good luck Sent from my Moto...

    Waiting out in Havasu

I'm waiting for the weather to be more consistent before I move to Pahrump. Anyone else in the same position looking for a good spot? I'm at the "Old 95 BLM" just south of I-40. Mile marker 201 on Arizona Route 95 (the new one). It's quiet and Sandy, so don't stray off the road. You WILL get...

    Pahrump in March?

Wheeler Pass road seems to be the place to go. It starts in the flat desert and climbs towards Mt. Charles. Look for a grand caravan with awnings on it. That's me, the Wandering Knight Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk

    8 months now...

I started out of Michigan on July 5th, 2020. Taking my time, I traveled the US highway system to Leadville, CO. I hung around there and Salida until Labor Day then moved to Hesperus. With snow and bear knocking on the doors, I slipped down to Flagstaff then Mongollon Rim, then Sedona. By...

Camping on FR 525 in Sedona May Be Limited

Many of the sites that are "off the path" have no camping/motor vehicle signs. Only the sites right on the road are open. I had to drive in 5+ miles to find a opening. It's very clean though, and while there is a lot of orv traffic, the dust is low and the noise is manageable.

    Looking for fellow travelers

Change of plan. Heading to Avon Walmart, then back to the north side of Leadville. Going to explore forest road 705 near Camp Hale.

    Looking for a free campsite?

My favorite site so far has been the dispersed camping south of Turquoise Lake near Leadville Colorado.  Good T-Mobile service, fast moving creek for free water, mostly flat sites in varied sizes. 9800 feet elevation.  Second place is Shavano wildlife area near Poncha Springs, Colorado. Again...

    New to the road

I left Michigan on July 5th and made it to Leadville Colorado to escape the heat. I will be remaining in Colorado until it gets too cold. My next move will be on August - probably toward Silverton or lower elevations.  I'm going to forgo sight seeing until I get the kinks worked out of this new...

    Essential Attire

Only been on the road for 3 weeks, but I have been wearing long sleeve polyester shirts to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Long pants as well - polyester. Polyester dried fast and breaths cool.  Mornings in Leadville are 40 degrees, so a light jacket is required. A good rain coat never hurts. Shoes...

    Diaper pail for poop bags?

I found a 2.5 gallon bucket at Meijer. It's a sawed off 5 gallon, so a Gamma lid fit perfectly. Ends up, a 4 gallon bag is too small, so I use 8 gallons doubled up. I, throw, sawdust in between uses and keep the pee separate. The Gamma keeps the smell at bay between uses. However, the smell...

    Finding Locations for Caravans

Summer in Leadville Colorado is super comfortable. A free dispersed forest with many and varied sized spots and good cell service is located south of Turquoise Lake. From Leadville, the Lake County Aquatic Center, take fr4 west. At the 3 way fork in the road, take the middle - fr48. Before you...
