Any Sugar Beet Harvest workers here?

That's correct the money is in the overtime pay. There is money to be made here especially if the harvest goes quick with good weather - that's not this year so far. We haven't worked at all yet due to wet conditions. The harvest officially started on October 1st which was this past Tuesday...

Any Sugar Beet Harvest workers here?

Hi Jim and thank you! We're on a stand down due to weather and the harvest start is delayed because of all the rain. Some piling stations are working today but others (including mine) are not. The farmers need to be able to get the trucks in and out of the fields and that's not fully possible...

Any Sugar Beet Harvest workers here?

I've been on the road since August 31st and a part of my plan was to make it to the sugar beet harvest. I put that as a goal so that I had a target - a sort of motivator - to get me going. I made it! I'm in MN and have completed the initial yard training sessions and we're scheduled to start...

Finally bucked up and pulled out of town

Hi Speed and thank you for your comments. I will, I'm sure, make my way to a WM at some point. I spent my first days at a free campground in Indiana this week and went 2 days on my batteries with a little help from my generator too. A Walmart for a night can be done for sure.

Finally bucked up and pulled out of town

Thanks Roamer for your comments! Over the last 4 days I've limited travel to 3 hours of driving and that's been a huge improvement. I've stayed 2 days at 2 spots and we're headed out again tomorrow to get to Oklahoma City area. Driving less leaves me more time to stop for supplies, fuel, rest...

Finally bucked up and pulled out of town

That is something I hadn't thought about - I'm still in the mode of 'I'm driving to get somewhere' but I really don't have anywhere to go. I know I want to get to the SW but not until temps allow, and between then and now I'm unscheduled. I do need to develop a routine and get comfortable so I...

Finally bucked up and pulled out of town

I hear you - when I get up to 65 I feel like I'm only driving and I'm not able to even look around. My truck seems to do well on cruise at 60. It can climb all (except 1) grade without downshifting out of OD, so I've settled on that speed or lower depending on posting. And thank you for the...

Finally bucked up and pulled out of town

If you read my introduction a few months back, I was in the middle of building my rig, selling my house (and everything in it) and getting ready to make big changes. My house closed on July 31st and I spent the month of August bouncing between a local campground and staying at my folks place. I...

    6 Weeks To Go

Hi Crabby - I'm in West Henrietta, a suburb of Rochester NY. Other than a 1 year job in CA back in the 90's, I've lived my whole life here and have liked the winters less and less as I've aged.

    6 Weeks To Go

Hi all - This is my first post here to say hello! In December of 2018 I lost my job and that was the turning point for me. I looked at all of the stresses that my career had brought me over the years and I said "I can't do it again". I had no desire to start a new position and prove myself to...

USPS Testing E450 chassis with electric motor and step van body

I just spent 4 years managing the US production facility of company that supplied the USPS with shelving and delivery carts for their new Transit vans. We shipped kits for 20,000 vans to the upfitter who was taking delivery of the vans directly from Ford, performing the upfit, then loading the...
