    Solar wiring

How will you be determining the State of Charge (SOC) of the battery?

    Holidays are for the slaves……..

What is the connection between chi and Christ other than sharing some letters? I didn't read the rest of the thread so may have missed the joke.

    The earth is flat!!!

The more outlandish conspiracies, of which the earth being at the centre of the universe is one, will not be "debunked" by experts in this field as they are simply not interested in having anything to do or waste time on those that purport such ideas. There are videos of flat earthers chasing...

    The earth is flat!!!

It's exactly the same issue with those that believe in a god. If they want to believe in something that does not have good evidence then no attempt to show them facts will dissuade them and will in all likelihood make them double-down on their irrational beliefs. As you mentioned, they would...

how do you protect solar panels hail?

INTJohn, your response is hilarious and a perfect example that such mindlessness is still rampant. The previous post was clearly referring to the brand (generic no-name Chinese versus a well known, high quality brand) rather than where the product was made. China is able to manufacture the...

    Eberspaecher D5 Hydronic Capability

You guys are too funny.  I'll take YOUR bait anyway... A hydronic heater for my purpose heats fluid (water plus anti-freeze) and pumps it around a closed loop.  A matrix is effectively a radiator with a fan.  The hot water runs through the matrix which has a large surface area.  An electric...

    Eberspaecher D5 Hydronic Capability

I am looking at installing an Eberspaecher D5 hydronic (5kW) unit but am wondering, from a real-world perspective, what it is capable of.  I am looking for it to run through the following: 3 x 2 KW matrices 1 x 500 W towel rail 1 x 20 litre calorifier 25 m of underfloor water heating tube...

    Is a Bathroom Fan Necessary?

Agreed.  Thanks everyone for all the input.   I will run the cabling to where I would install a 12V fan but initially go without a fan.  The composting toilet will be vented through the floor and I may put a vent through the bathroom wall into the main van interior.

    Is a Bathroom Fan Necessary?

Thank you for the link. Is the statement below a generic disclaimer or is there a serious concern about using the vent in a small bathroom with shower? Note: Not for use above tubs, showers or range cooking surfaces.

    Is a Bathroom Fan Necessary?

On the fan above the bed my thought is have a Maxxair Deluxe that can be open and not allow rain in. As for a leak we will be able to spot that pretty quickly as we will be in the van full time. Perhaps I need another Maxxair with electric vent opening for the bathroom. I could easily reach...

    Is a Bathroom Fan Necessary?

Is it necessary to install an extractor fan in a camper van combined toilet/bathroom?  Plan is to have two fans, one in the kitchen area and the other over the permanent bed.  The kitchen fan would be on 24/7 to control the humidity with the fan over the bed being used as the inlet, not powered...

Solar off while charging with alt. ?

Quite possibly reading too much in to the Balmar quote. What device do you use between the batteries or alternator/house batteries to control the charge voltage?

Solar off while charging with alt. ?

Yes, there is a very real chance of harm if anything I have read is to be believed. The harm is the higher voltage but lower current source wins leading to an undercharged battery bank as there are not enough sunlight hours in the day to restore the battery to full charge (a real scenario for...

Solar off while charging with alt. ?

When it comes to potentially destroying 1000's dollars of kit prematurely I would like to know the science behind things rather than just leaving it to chance. Maybe that is just my engineering background that makes we want to understand why things happen. Balmar, with their R&D budget, have...

Solar off while charging with alt. ?

Taken from the Balmar FAQ:   Can I run my alternator, solar panels and/or wind generator at the same time and charge that much faster? The problem with multiple charging sources is that they tend to fool one another.  Say your solar panel (or wind generator) is charging the battery at 14 volts...

    Question on alternator upgrade

From the Lifeline technical manual: The charging current during the Bulk stage should be set as high as practical; higher current levels mean faster recharge time and less time for the plates to become sulfated. Due to the low impedance design, Lifeline[emoji2400] batteries can tolerate...
