    We ain't getting any younger!

Welcome from another old-enough-to-have-grandchildren-but-don't crocheter! :P  I'm working on a double layer Simply Soft winter blanket, because crochet is great for trapping warm air while allowing moisture to escape. It works great under a quilt, fleece or comforter when temperatures dip. :D

Heads up for photographers & stargazers!

For anyone into astrophotography, astronomy and/or stargazing, the Geminids meteor shower is coming up soon. The shower will run from Dec 7th to the 17th, with the highest concentration of meteors overnight Dec 13th to 14th. At its peak, this shower produces up to 120 multicolored meteors per...

    Sun protection w/ out sunscreen

I like Columbia's Bahama and Tamiami fishing shirts. Both have vents in the back and provide good UV protection. They are pricey, but last a long time. You can sometimes find them super cheap on Amazon, depending on color and size. Being female, I don't mind if they are oversized because I throw...

    Dutch oven cooking

Is the single burner butane stove you have the type with the cannister below the burner, or beside? If it is beside, the dome will overheat the cannister if it is over it. If it is below, it will work fine.

    Dutch oven cooking

That's great, Rose! With a little experimenting, you will probably be able to get more browning without scorching the bottom. A little butter or sugar on top might help, too. I love being able to bake on my camp stove, and the dome definitely helps.

    Thanks for the forums.

Welcome to the forums, trampus! A 5x8 sounds like fun; the enclosed cargo version of a teardrop.

    Plants Van Log

My E350 came with a backup camera mounted in the back bumper, which I thought was great. Took me about 3 seconds to discover that the image was backwards  The visibility is limited due to the location. If I had done it, I would have put it higher up (and, you know, done it right).

    Dutch oven cooking

Go low and slow with the heat, and make sure the oven or pan isn't right on the burner (needs elevation or the bottom will scorch, hence the diffuser that should have come with it). If using the dutch oven, preheat like you would a regular oven. Watch a couple of the youtube videos to get an...

    Just got my first van!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :D :D  :D :D Mine is a 2005 ford E-350, extended. My best friend took one look at it and yclept it the 'Road Pig', because it is a bit lifted, too. After a test drive, I had to agree

Not committed to full-timing yet. But planning for it.

On the teardrop front, you might wat to check out the foamie thread, located here: https://vanlivingforum.com/showthread.php?tid=33769 Foamies are super light, and you would be able to design almost everything about it to suit your needs.

Not committed to full-timing yet. But planning for it.

I modified my camper shell by installing wire shelving over the slide windows (from the inside). That way, I could leave the doggos in the back with both long windows all the way open and not worry about them squeezing out or some idiot getting bitten. A couple of battery powered fans in the...

    stalks and NOT celery!

^^^^^^^ That's why I suggested window cleaner. No one can say having a bottle of window cleaner in a vehicle is unusual.

    Dutch oven cooking

If you do a youtube search, there are some good demo vids showing different techniques (in the DO, out of it on a trivet, lid on/ lid off). One guy used it to bake a giant cookie in his DO :P

    stalks and NOT celery!

That's why pepper/ bear spray would be a bad idea inside a vehicle if someone broke in. You would likely blind yourself along with the attacker. A bottle of ammonia (window cleaner) set on stream would be better, but you still might get some on ya.

SNL gives full time RV a smack

I have one that says, 'MORE COWBELL', from the Christopher Walken/ Will Ferrel 'Don't Fear the Reaper' sketch.

    SteamPunk Sickle and side care

That is definitely an REO Speedwagon :D The guy needs the steampunk teardrop trailer from the Misc Vehicles thread to go with it!

Anyone on their own for Thanksgiving?

I posted a pic of the result in the Dutch Oven thread, Food/Cooking forum. :D

    Dutch oven cooking

Here's an Amazon link: Camp Chef Oven Dome They only show it being used on the big Camp Chef stove, but it works just fine on my standard issue Coleman 2 burner. I use the burner further from the connection, as I don't want the heat on the bare connector.

Anyone on their own for Thanksgiving?

On my own for T day, but wanted turkey anyway. I stuffed a turkey thigh with onion, garlic, celery, spinach, hash brown potatoes and cheese, wrapped it in bacon (well, sort of) and baked it in a cast iron dutch oven on my camp stove. Yummy stuff!
