    Insulate your floors with cardboard!

I’ve tried that. It helps. I’ve actually found the cardboard is better. The yoga mats fall apart on you after a while, they cost money, and insulate every bit as good, as far as I can tell. Admittedly, I did not test scientifically.

    Insulate your floors with cardboard!

Those are all valid observations, but not really an issue. Mold doesn’t really take hold below freezing, and there really are no insects to speak of in these temperatures either. I remove it and recycle or burn in the spring. The strategy is to treat it like it’s sacrificial. If you want...

    Insulate your floors with cardboard!

I’ve been using just a single layer, but more would be better, I assume. My mention of using it as wall insulation was speculative, so I can’t really answer your question on that. The cardboard I’ve been using is boxes that Amazon deliveries were in, so just your typical weight. I don’t really...

    Insulate your floors with cardboard!

I’ve watched untold 100’s of hours of van build videos over the last 3 years. Even after I moved into my van and lived in it full time now for 3 years, I still watch them from time to time. I’ve never seen anyone else mention it so I’ll do it here. Cardboard on the floor does a remarkably good...

    van washing....

I think you get more complaints from non VanDweller’s and police harassment in a dirty van.  It depends on where you’re parked though.

    van washing....

Just washed my van yesterday, so this is fresh on my mind. ‘Yes’ to the log handle. It will serve you well. If you go to a self serve place, you’ll save a lot of money going to one that is not in a larger city.  In Grand Junction, CO I could go through all the steps of washing (prewash, soak...

    Van Anaylis Paralysis

If you need high clearance I’d say rule out the ProMaster. The rear axle is about 6 inches from the ground.

Suddenly, so many DIY vandweller youtubers?

No arguments with that from me in general, but this guy BSing other van dwellers and wouldbe’s. This guy is particularly irksome with his clickbait titles and profiting from piggybacking off others content with zero attribution. He’s trying to be some kind of anti-Bob Wells that discourages...

Suddenly, so many DIY vandweller youtubers?

What bugs me are the ones that mostly just criticize other YouTube channels. There’s one (Naming names: Little House on the Road) who constantly cites content on other channels and deliberately does not link to or name who he’s referring to, then he distorts, exaggerates and sometimes straight...

Just Facts: Transits, ProMasters and Cargos

That's the first I've heard of them. Do you know the fuel efficiency saving you get from those?

Just Facts: Transits, ProMasters and Cargos

My van's a 2018 2500 with no recalls (yet) and I didn't even know the feature existed when I bought my van.  I was amazed at how well it handled in the wind and passing situations that sedans feel unstable in. Knowing what I know now, I'd say it's something to consider for anyone considering a...

Just Facts: Transits, ProMasters and Cargos

The steering wheel isn't a crosswind assist feature that uses the rear brakes to dynamically adjust for wind shear. Do you know if the ProMaster or the Transit have such a feature? I'm asking a real question.

Just Facts: Transits, ProMasters and Cargos

Does the Transit or the ProMaster offer the same/similar crosswind assist feature that the Sprinter has?  These big vans are like sails, and it made a big difference to me while driving a Sprinter from FL to CA a couple months ago. I've driven sedans that get blown around more when a big 18...

    "Interior" heating

32F is better than 0F and in the wind. I guess it would provide a safe(er) place to practice yogi-breathing. This sounds like a business opportunity on a hot day. You could rent out a relaxing, cool stay in the van-snow-cave by the minute. I should trademark this idea, but y'all can have it for...

    "Interior" heating

Snow! How much more flame retardant can you get? You solve your air conditioning problem in the summer at the same time! I think we're on to something here!

    "Interior" heating

Not unless you fill in the interior of your van with insulation and hollow out a cavity shaped like a snow cave. :)  That would be a new approach I haven't heard of yet...

    "Interior" heating

That's not universally true. Mountaineers will use a candle inside a snow cave they've excavated for light, heat and an indicator of sufficient amounts of oxygen in the cave to be safe. Obviously, the snow cave has to be built right. It's only some heat though, and it certainly won't get you...

    "Interior" heating

No offense was intended. I'll consider myself lucky to not be well-practiced in the technique.

    "Interior" heating

Winter in SoCal is quite different than winter in N. Dakota. It makes me curious what is winter’s like where you’re at?

    "Interior" heating

“Practice using a pee jug inside of the bag. “ I would never even consider doing that. To each their own. Have you ever had things go wrong?! That could make for a miserable night. :)
