Are you really happy as a nomad?

I started doing it because my partner left me and I've been too depressed to work. If we lived in a country that took care of its citizens I would be happy to have a tiny home somewhere. I really just do this because if I live on nothing I can't be hurt too bad by people abandoning me Sent...

What can I do in a month?

This is good advice. Especially first post. I am going to try and do the least possible and see how much that improves things. @minimotovan I didn't prepare for winter in so far as I have been living on a $230/mo for six months. Hard to earn more when you have major depression and would rather...

What can I do in a month?

A generous friend is letting me stay with them for the next month because my e150 (passenger conversion) has been too cold and uncomfortable. There are big drafts from the door and I don't have proper furniture or solar. It's honest be pretty miserable to live in the last 8 months. My guess is...

Heating when you can't afford a Mr. Buddy

That's a moderate amount of jingoism but okay. A basic Terra Cotta pot which I am using will be fine regardless of origin. I can confirm it works quite well. First time in 3 months I've been able to sit at home without my hoodie on. My only addition will probably a vent pipe that sucks hot...

Heating when you can't afford a Mr. Buddy

This thread blew up while I didn't have access to the web. Hope you've all been warm this winter. My solution was incremental. I found a Coleman single burner stove - like Bob's at the thrift store for $5. It produced plenty of heat as advertised but I haven't used it as a proper heater yet...

    Weather stripping for drafts?

Anyone who has had drafty vans how did you solve that problem? Waking up to a van that is 36 degrees inside is no fun, and I think a big issue is cold air rushing in during the night after my heater has done its work and I've gone to bed. Does standard weather stripping and caulk work on van doors?

Heating when you can't afford a Mr. Buddy

What are cost effective ways to keep a van warm at night - I can't afford the $90 up front cost. Suggestions?

    Correct order for layering insulation

I tried just using reflective material but my tint isn't dark enough. How much will having some blackout fabric between the window and the mylar affect the insulations effectiveness of reflecting heat? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Correct order for layering insulation

Van in question: 2002 e-150 conversation. Due to financial constraints I am only doing window insulation on my van this fall. My plan is to use rtech EPS foam board and reflectix. Right now I just have blackout curtains. I do not want to be obnoxious and have obvious reflectix in the windows...

2002 E150 Conversion on an extreme budget

Hey everyone! Long time no update. This will be a short one because I'm sleepy but I wanted to write a few lines. I made to Portland 3 weeks ago - the Go Fund Me money lasted long enough to make some life changes but didn't go as far as I wanted with the van. It's still pretty basic...

2002 E150 Conversion on an extreme budget

So I did it. I'm a van dweller now. I moved and threw out everything in my apartment in about 24 hours - been spending so much time fixing the van I forgot about the packing part. And it's day three and honestly the van is a mess. I overpacked and under measured. Tired, too, because I have been...

    Question about jumpacks

That's a great idea. Thank you!

    Question about jumpacks

So I found this powerpack at the thrift store for $10. No manual. It came with a 9dcv / 900mah charger that plugs into the front. I am curious if there is a way to deduce the max amperage the charging wire can take. Is it possible to rewire this to take a small, maybe 60watt, solar panel as...

2002 E150 Conversion on an extreme budget

Yep! No big heavy wood in this thing. Mostly going to use plastic and self-made composits. I want to keep the added weight under 300lbs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2002 E150 Conversion on an extreme budget

Update! Last week was a long one. I suffer from depression and anxiety and sometimes you just have to batten down and wait for the storm to pass. It took a few tries but I got the sparkplugs fixed and also did the cap and rotor. I also measured the cab so that I can start planning a layout...

2002 E150 Conversion on an extreme budget

This is all great advice, thank you. Even if I had money my philosophy would be very much the same: try it out and see what I need rather than assuming ahead of time and overspending on stuff I might need just because it's conventional. The previous owner drove this thing for 4 (Jan-April)...

2002 E150 Conversion on an extreme budget

Due to unexpected repair needs, my budget for my van conversion is tiny: about $400. This is going to be a journal of sorts where I pose questions for myself and hopefully some of you can help answer. Just writing them down, however, starts the process of my own problem solving. I'm doing this...

    Jumping in

Hello hopeful future friends. Life and circumstance has brought me to the point of choosing a life I've been dreaming about for a long time. Ending a recent relationship and the inability to keep my apartment on a single salary has made me decide to move into a van full-time. I just got a 2002...
