Hi Melissa, my name is John. Your message is a week old so i don't know whether you already found somewhere to go, but in the last few days of the RTR Bob announce that the caravans would continue year round since the first two last fall were such a success. He published a schedule...

    Government Shutdown

Reading the contingency plan. I'm not sure how to interpret the following info on page 2: Visitor Management: The BLM will close and secure visitor centers and facilities on public lands. Visitor activities that require a permit may be canceled or postponed. Contracted operations such as trash...

    DMV cracking down on residency

If you are receiving social security, another thing to keep in mind when selecting a state of residence is whether the state taxes your benefits. Some do and some don't. Here is a motley fool article on it...

Road trip up the California coast

I'm in the SF East Bay next to Oakland. I did that trip in 2006. I spent three weeks. If you stick to route 1 along the coast you should be okay through west marin and mendocino counties, although you might experience some smokiness. Here is a fire map: http://www.fire.ca.gov/general/firemaps...

Ford vs. Chevy extended vans... rear overhang, significant difference?

Look for the chevy express 2500 work cargo van. It is slightly longer than the standard sized one. Notice the additional space between the rear tire and the barn doors.

Thinking about buying 2002 chevy conversion van w 220,000 miles. What would you do?

Bob, you recently had that great sprinter van interview video with that really knowledgeable guy (forgot his name). During that vid you or he mentioned that sprinters are good for up to 500k miles. I was wondering if you had a similar prediction for chevy express vans. I'm bound and determined...

    65 year old women...scared I don't know enough

Ah, stopping. An important consideration I forgot to consider. damn physics. is there a formula or rule of thumb or newton's law of motion (that might just be for planets) that can be used to calculate that? Vizsla: I find that information and experience are the best ways to chase away such fears.

    65 year old women...scared I don't know enough

I'm new at this, too, and the subject of weight has been a little confusing to me. I don't mean to burst your bubble but that 2700 lbs you cited is unloaded weight of the R Pod (and, someone correct me if i,m wrong, INCLUDES the hitch weigt of 285lbs). You still need to consider the weight of...

    Help. Would this work?

I own a '95 Astro van (bought it new) and love it. It has approx 100k miles. I have heard of them lasting to 400k miles when well maintained. So 41k miles in 20 years is extremely low milage, if you are confident that's an honest number. We have been on all sorts of coastal, mountain, desert...

Hi Nadine, welcome to crvl. I've only just joined myself. I'm not on the road yet but i'm in practically in the same boat as you (having lost my job), but in San Francisco. I too have worked all my life (in IT) and now find that the only thing employers want are the younger, cheaper employees...
