Around the US in 101 days

I like the criteria for destinations.  We are going to give Capitals a go for the states we go through. Staying in Carson City NV tonight :-)

G'day, What a wet run down the coast.  Considering I can catch up to cars on the twisty roads the Dodge van handles OK for a small shed going down the road and has been good in the rain and even the icy roads in Portland. We have left the coast and are heading to Reno, we are just behind the...

Around the US in 101 days

The weather has made it an easy decision, it's wet and cold, so we have done some miles and are on the Coast in Oregon now.  Been mainly on the I5 so headed to the coast today, have stayed at 2 Walmarts and a rest area just below Wilsonville on the I5.  The toilets were pretty good at the rest...

We certainly travel differently I guess. We have owned and hired numerous Vans, just recently we did a month in Europe driving from Nice to Amsterdam in a Nissan van hired through Wiked Campers, and our first venture into life on the road was in a 32Ft Bus and 2 kids and a dog :-) Not...

    Class B Rv Van

Really like the B class i've hired, rekon I could come up with a much better design. Starting with shedding some weight and keeping it low, the overhead cupboards would be gone.

Cheers popeye, my Naviagator like to fit in a lot so 10k + miles here we come. This is generally how we travel, we enjoy seeing the country side change as you click up the miles. Really looking forward driving across the northern us states in early spring.

G'day VanDwellers, With hopes to buy a Van and do a basic conversion dashed by New York's DMVs stupid 6 points for identification, we decided to hire a RV. We flew to Seattle to pick up our rental RV in Grayland WA, giving us 101 days to get back to Seattle.  The weather is average so haven't...

What's The Name of Your Rig?

My Aussie van is called "BEV" standing for Bloody Expensive Van, I did an engine upgrade from a 4 pot to a V6 and it cost a lot more than I had budgeted for... Ah the fun of customisation :-)

Buying in the USA as a Foreigner

Thank You for the info Rob. I see Texas even throw in a gun when you register a vehicle (joking) Wish I had known this before basing ourselves in New York! We are committed to a 'work away' position for the next week so we will make the decision if we head to Texas or Rent soon. Thanks...

Buying in the USA as a Foreigner

Thanks for the offer.  The way I understand it, you'd have to put it under your name then insurance gets interesting, and you could end up being liable for tickets/accident etc. Not something I'd want to put onto somebody :-)

Buying in the USA as a Foreigner

I'm out by 'ONE' point proving who I am. I have 3 additional Photo ID's (other than my passport) from Aussie and they are not excepted. It's not looking good for buying in New York. In the other states mentioned I have to prove residency, which is something NY doesn't need. And proving...

Buying in the USA as a Foreigner

Thanks for the suggestions. Think I've got it sorted, fingers crossed. Back to the DMV tomorrow with my letter from the Department of social security. The reason I had chosen NY was because I didn't need a American residential address, but did have a 'holy shit' moment with the cost of...

Buying in the USA as a Foreigner

Maybe when I was young and dumb Wagoneer :-) Hey TrainChaser, I need the points to prove who I am, my Aussie passport counts for 3, credit card 1, and I thought I'd be alright with Aussie Drivers Lic and other photo ID's I have for the other 2 but no go, they aren't on the list. I'm off to...

Buying in the USA as a Foreigner

Residence is not a problem, getting the 6 points to prove who I am for the DMV is My Passport and visa is 3 points, a credit card 1 point, and I thought my Australian Drivers Licence would of been OK for the other 2, but no So after doing a bit more google time, apparently I can get an...

Buying in the USA as a Foreigner

Hi Vandwellers, I thought I had it all worked out.  Buy a van in New York travel for 4 months sell it for a lot less than worth for a quick sale all good. But No! I can't pull the 6 points together to prove who I am to the DMV.  (Yet I have a visa and DHS let me in) So does anyone know a...

    On the Road in Europe

Our travels have continued mainly on the second class roads, visiting the small town and enjoying the country side.  The style of farming appears quite different to that of Australia, with livestock being housed and not roaming the paddocks.  For the time of year we are not seeing any crops...

    On the Road in Europe

Hi Again, Thanks for the replies. I will get around to answering questions, haven't had great internet access as we have relied on Maccas. We are at the end of our European adventure.  The weather has remained fine which is always a bonus when travelling and vandewlling.  The small size and...

    On the Road in Europe

HI Vandwellers Thought I’d share our experience of hiring a Campervan in Europe. Calling it a Campervan is a bit of a stretch, through Wickedcampers we have hired a small Nissan Van with a very basic set up.  It has a work area in the back for the kitchen, storage for cooking gear and a cooler...
