    Tall Vans and Low Bridges

My van is roughly 7', and will be taller once I add a roof rack, cargo box, and dog sled. I've come across a variety of relatively low bridges in the Northeast US -- some really sneak up on you, and don't offer a way to easily turn around. I've made a point to avoid these routes in the future...

Installing a Roof Rack on Ford High Top

Actually -- I've convinced myself to go ahead and get the Vantech high mounting racks since they're on sale right now. Rather avoid drilling into the fiberglass if I can!

Installing a Roof Rack on Ford High Top

Follow-up question: what's a good roof rack option for high tops at ~12" tall? I'd like to spend less than $400 if possible. I've only seen the Vantech racks: http://vantech.us/Conversion-Vans_c143.htm (Edit: these seem to be on sale now, so I'm thinking of returning my Thule stuff..)

Installing a Roof Rack on Ford High Top

Hmm, I'm not TOO concerned about the load. I plan to put up a very light cargo box with dog mushing gear. Harnesses, lines, rubber bowls -- the stuff that gets muddy that I don't want to keep inside the van, but doesn't weight more than 50 pounds. That and a wooden dog sled (~35 pounds). The...

Installing a Roof Rack on Ford High Top

Hey all! Looking for advice. I have an '89 high top E150 conversion van -- there's roughly a foot between the rain gutters and the highest point of the van's top. Given the shape of the hightop, it didn't seem feasible to attach traditional roof rack systems, so I ordered Thule's...

    Introducing Rover

Thanks! I was curious to see if any other mushers were on here. I actually first got into trucks and bigger vehicles through the sport. Dog truck setup is a really cool world in itself, and I've seen a few mushers with amazing conversions. Next time I go to a race or meetup I'll grab pictures of...

    Introducing Rover

Definitely! It'll be interesting to accommodate myself and four (possibly 5 soon) dogs in the van, but it'll be a big upgrade from tent camping.

    Introducing Rover

Awesome! Thanks so much. I've been a long time lurker here and a few other places. It's been incredibly helpful.

    Introducing Rover

Greetings from New Jersey! Earlier this month I bought Rover, an '89 Ford E-150 Club Wagon: I'm in the early phases of turning her into a camper. I've removed the seats and carpet -- next up will be a thorough cleaning and new floor. Then I'll be building out a bed over two dog crates and...
