Solar help needed at the RTR

Okay, I think I'm okay now. After driving a bit yesterday and conserving last eve, I'm now pulling 9 amps and in boost/absorption mode in full sun. I think I understand estimated the impact of short days, low sun on the horizon and heading into overcast days with batteries which weren't...

Solar help needed at the RTR

I think I'll do this tomorrow.  For what it's worth, when I get to 12.2 I'm starting the engine to charge the batts  Also, one other reason to do this is because I purchased these batts used, and while they have served me well for a year, I was wondering if one might be a bit sick. I mentioned...

That is very generous of you.  If nothing else, would love to shake your hand for such an offer.  Where might I find you ?

Solar help needed at the RTR

My panels are fixed / flat which I suspect is my issue.  It's odd though because everything seemed to work great at home... but alas, I didn't spend much time on my laptop.

Solar help needed at the RTR

The wiring was the 2nd thing I checked.  I even respliced some some wires from my panel to the controller which I thought might be suspect.  As for a small gen.. yep, I agree.  That would be  prudent for sure, although not something I can do right now. Thank you!

Solar help needed at the RTR

Ummm... I kinda left solar bill in a huff. After getting a bit of a lecture about how Trump has likely increased Chemtrail activity and how that might impact my solar harvesting, nothing else the tech said was credible to me.   Then when I mentioned the conversation while I was trying to pay...

Solar help needed at the RTR

I drove around a bit today so I was able to get a charge.  Parking on a hill is a good idea as well.  I did reorient the van so it's at a little bit of a tilt.  Can say if it helps because right after I did that, it started raining.  My laptop is a power hog so no working today.  So glad I...

Solar help needed at the RTR

Thanks so much. I do appreciate that.  I'm going to see if I can get a call back from Solar Bills today or just drive over there.  They aren't keen on returning phone calls.  I suspect because they are probably crazy busy.   My computer only has enough battery life for about an hour, so I'd...

1.8 amps here with 400 watts solar. Ugh.

Solar help needed at the RTR

I'd kill for 10amps!  FYI... I do have the ability to charge when my engine is running (what I'm doing now), but that's not sustainable.  I will reach out to you should I decide that's the path to take.  Where can I find you?  I'm about 200 yards from Nomadic Fanatic. Would love to say hi :)

Solar help needed at the RTR

I know it's overcast, so I'm not expecting much but I'm having a heck of time keeping my batts charged.  I've never had this problem before. My PWM controller is only showing that I'm harvesting 1.2 amps from 400watts of solar.  I've called around, and even on a day like this, I'm told I should...

Official DATES for RTR 2018: Rules and Maps

Well, I made it! I think I did anyway.  I might have been a bit premature turning into my camp though.  My odometer said 1.4 miles when the dirt road started, but I see folks up at the next turn.  Figure I'll wait for the signs to go up tomorrow before I move given that I'm so early ::) Blue...

    Unlimited AT&T $20 a month

I don't know what the current disposition might be, but I can say from my own experience, the CS Department doesn't know squat about this.  Be sure you are talking to the "connected car" division.  Their CS rep all but called me a fool to suggest that I could get an unlimited plan for $20.  Then...

Winter approaching - any temporary make-shift insulation ideas?

Yeah, you're probably right on the R value.  I've seen estimates all over the place but you could be spot on.  Sadly, I don't have many options for window coverings as cargo blankets haven't performed that well.   I'm just trying to get everything squared away before heading from Southern...

Winter approaching - any temporary make-shift insulation ideas?

Not that it really matters I suppose, but if your observation is that reflectix provides an insulation benefit, what's likely happening is that you're radiating your body heat back into the van vs. actually keeping the cold out.   If your in the van, why it works doesn't really matter.  But if...

Winter approaching - any temporary make-shift insulation ideas?

I have a 95 Ford E-350 passenger van and I'm going with a different approach.  I ordered a box of black 3/8 inch interlocking EVA rubber floor tiles which just arrived yesterday.  I've cut templates for each window and plan to cut custom window inserts.  The EVA foam is a pretty good insulator...

Lowering Engine Temp - Ford E350

Q: When you say a recent rebuilt engine did they bore it? how much? A: I have no idea, all we know is that the engine was rebuilt, est 20k miles ago. Q: you say hotter then you like, got any numbers? A: Nope. Just gets close to red. Noticed this most recently when heading up a reasonably...

Lowering Engine Temp - Ford E350

There's nothing inherently wrong with my van, but it does run hotter than I'd prefer when climbing hills at low speeds, or slower speeds with the AC.  I have the 5.8L Windsor engine with a C6 transmission.  I thought I'd add a transmission cooler to help protect the trans, but wondered about...
