Have you seen the new BLM page?

https://www.blm.gov/ Yes, that is indeed a giant seam of coal rather than scenic wildness. I'm feeling a bit concerned about the future of all the wonderful places on my van bucket list.

    Terrorist Attack in London

Just because no one else has posted this: “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear...

    Terrorist Attack in London

It's a heck of a lot safer in London now than it was thirty years ago with IRA bombings In fact crime is down tremendously in the US too. Fear is useful to keep people controlled.

    How to travel slow?

Somewhere I read a rule of twos: Drive no more than 2 hours without a break; drive no more than 200 miles a day; take at least 2 days in place before driving again. Hopefully I remember that correctly. May have been on another RVing site.

How much does that take? Interested because debating whether to take mine on the road.

    Cold Brew Coffee

So I got the little brewer. Very easy. Put 50 gms coffee in the basket, fill pitcher with water, stir a few times, sit over night. It made several mugs of good strong coffee (I wound up diluting it 1:1 with water) that was just fine. Could probably use a somewhat finer grind than regular coarse...

    Cold Brew Coffee

So, this post reminded me how much I like cold brew. Ordered this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJ3O0Y2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 since it's a reasonable price and looks like it would keep the mess down. I'll let you all know how it works out.

    Cold Brew Coffee

I've both bought it and made it. Stok brand is delicious, very mellow and rich without that acid bitter edge, but it's expensive as are all of them AFAIK. Making it is surprisingly messy, at least the way I tried. Mix 3 cups of coarse ground coffee into 6 cups of water, let steep for 8-12 hours...

    Washing clothes

If you get the Scrubba, please come back with a review. I'm debating this one too. Laundromat prices are shocking IMO.

Presidential Election Results and Uncertainty for the Nomad

Nonetheless, if we can avoid political commentary, we do have some things to be concerned about - how will the changes brought by the election affect our ability to get health care? Will we need more identification or less? Will there be changes related to RealID and ease of acquiring domicile...

    Bucket toilet stability fixes?

Maybe weight the bucket with something like pea gravel (rounded edges, wouldn't tear the trash bag) or rocks or gravel topped with a circle of foam below the trash bag. Depends on how much force you're putting on the top edge, but you have lots of room to work with in a 7 gallon. Problem is it...

The American Dream is Killing us (Great Article)

This isn't to say that we have some great things going on - the National Forests, BLM land especially. It's just to say we aren't the only ones, and some places *cough*most of Europe*cough* have better social benefits. And then there's the countries/regions/towns/NGOs looking into Universal...

Am I going to be drinking boiling water?

The photos are a mix. You have to look for ones that are unglazed both inside and out. Those will cool well, 15 degrees F or more below ambient. Even better in a dry climate. Another thing that will work is a steel walled container, wrapped in something porous (layers of cloth, batting...

Am I going to be drinking boiling water?

Better, skip using the word porous and go here: https://www.google.com/search?q=terracotta+clay+water+dispensers&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjd0NHEzfTPAhUG5YMKHcdkAs4QsAQIeA&biw=1229&bih=619 Now to find some reasonably priced ones. Darn! These used to be pretty common.

Am I going to be drinking boiling water?

Porous terracotta clay water dispensers used to be fairly common and cooled well by evaporation. I'm having trouble finding one now (where'd they all go?) but here's the idea - shown as an "innovative product" LOL Ah, figured out how to find them -...

Do these solutions allow for vans or will they only work for actual rvs?

    Older VanDwellers (65+)

Being paralyzed by fear of the interstate mess around Atlanta is completely rational. I used to drive from upstate SC to panhandle FL by secondary highways to visit my daughter rather than go through or around Atlanta even though it added at least a couple of hours to the trip. The only other...

    Building to fit curved walls?

There are tools like contour gauges and curve templates that wood and metal workers use to duplicate curved shapes. They're on the expensive side, especially for larger ones, but you might be able to borrow or rent them.

Stop poop bags from smelling for about $15. No I'm not kidding!!!

Thank you. I have three of these - just need to get some new gaskets. You saved them from a future at the thrift store.
