I applied for a car-loan, with no vehicle chosen yet..

Just a word of warning about getting a pre-approved loan...My bank pre-approved me. I went shopping that weekend. Found the cargo van I wanted. Then saw on the terms and conditions the loan wasn't applicable for "commercial vehicles" which is a cargo van. Caused me to find another lender that...

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

My mistake...it was 1/4".  This what I used.  It is VERY light. https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-4-in-x-3-5-in-x-8-ft-Cedar-V-Plank-6-Pieces-14-sq-ft-8203015/202106509 Couple of tips...Since they are only 8' long they aren't long enough to cover the full length of a cargo van or extended van, so...

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

Thanks all, the weight isn't a factor at all. The wood tongue and groove is only 1/8" thick and is very lightweight. As for MPG. It's a heavy cargo van, I have a lead foot, and the mileage sucks. No really getting around it, except maybe a diesel (which I don't want).

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

Thanks.  I think I got the photo posting figured out.  Maybe...??  Too further explain, I used some poly fill batting about 3/4" thick as a backing before laying the vinyl down.  It gives it a more finished look and is softer to the touch.  Thanks for following this butchered thead.  Happy to...

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

" />Thanks for all the suggestions.  There were many good ones!  In the end, I decided I was over thinking the process and decided to keep it simple.  I ended up going with 2 vertical and 1 horizontal piece of leather looking vinyl.  It is held in place by velcro in the interior and I used the...

Super Gauge for curves & frames?

Another quick way to to follow the curves of a large area that was taught to me by my then, Industrial Design student...Take a roll of blue painters tape and using as many pieces that are needed, place gently down on the curve you are following. Because of the PostIt like quality of the...

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

The thin layer of foam padding under the vinyl or leather covering is to give a smoother look to the finish.  Without it, when gluing on covering you will see every imperfection of the base layer below.  I'm thinking a layer of Luan, foam, and then covering.  Possibly exchanging Luan for foam...

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

Thanks for the ideas! I like Mr Noodly's idea of using wood, and it would look really great covered with brown vinyl or the leather on Amazon. Thinking a thin layer of foam under vinyl or leather wrap would let the fit be more finished looking. Whatever I do, I want to devise a way to easily...

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

This is an earlier unfinished van photo that I found on my phone. Ceiling has been completed, crown molding on wall sides and a different bed, but you should get the drift of what I am trying to accomplish. thanks!

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

The wood came from Home Depot so it was easily sourced.  I'll TRY to post a pic, but this forum is the worst for trying to get a photo up...Stay tuned.

    Rear door surround finish ideas?

My 2015 Chevy Cargo Express conversion is 99% complete.  It has tongue and groove 1/8" knotty pine strips running the length of ceiling and walls.  What hasn't been finished, and my OCD is making me crazy, is the metal surround where rear light wiring harness is stored (vertical and horizontal...

    I bought a van just now ...

That's exciting. Sounds like you did everything correctly. You will have a blast once you start building it out. Good luck!

    Planning Van Purchase

Having a Chevy Express 2500, standard roof as my weekend/vacation van, I would NOT consider LIVING in any van that I couldn't stand up in. Maybe being 6'2" and being older has something to do with it, but that would be a deal breaker for me.

Using foam mats under plywood flooring

No need to fasten the plywood subfloor to the metal floor. The weight of the furnishings will hold everything in place just fine. Sealing the floor is also a great idea.

Forestry Forest doing a new build as we speak!!

Only watched one video. Fantastic drone shots and beautiful landscapes! There is NO WAY I would ever drive on those roads with my Chevy Express 2500 with one pitiful drive wheel. Assuming he has a better drive set up than I do.

    Decoupage on van interior

Late to this thread, but I did my van with Luan wood on all the doors.  Put on photos, news clipping, magazine covers, etc.  Used Elmers glue diluted with water to stick on wood.  Then polyurethaned over it with a water based poly.  Looks great and holds up well.  Everything is racing themed, as...
