Police frequently slinking around one of my sleeping spots

It’s pretty easy to rotate where I’m at (and I do) but usually between only 3-4 spots and never the same spot 2 nights in a row. Picking at least one new place in light of the recent events. Mostly just curious if anyone has had this situation happen and ended up using the spot anyway, did...

Police frequently slinking around one of my sleeping spots

Disclaimer: My van is by no means stealth to anyone who has a clue … solar panels and a Maxx Air fan easily visible. Multiple times have had people ask me about it in parking lots. Recently in one of my favorite sleeping spots the police have been there or driving by every night around dusk...

Looking for a Really Good Fan / Air Circulator

Being in Florida, it's probably going to be miserable sleeping *with* a MaxxFan, I shudder to think about not having one. It doesn't feel great even when I slept in my van in a Kansas summer (around 72 degrees at night and pretty humid) with the MaxxFan and a fan in the interior. You'd probably...

    12/24V Air Conditioners, Any success?

If you have a MaxxFan or Fantastic Fan you can use a Hessaire Evaporative cooler. This is the one I'm using. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HFGJ3T Have used it when the outdoor humidity was about 50% and it still works great. The trick is to place the rear of the unit (the side it is...

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

Reinstalled and with good crimps / 6 gauge (thought I ordered 4 gauge, doh … however the manual says it’s fine if the wire run is on the shorter side of 21-30 ft … which it is) plus heat shrink. Everything is working again, but I’ll definitely be monitoring it much more closely this time around...

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

Tomorrow will be getting in the new wiring, crimping tool and 4 awg ring connectors, and a grommet. This will be my lesson not to take shortcuts doing electrical stuff … here is the carnage and I can see obvious problems (oversized ring terminal connector for the wire, exposed wire) now that...

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

I take it that a good practice would probably be to check for oxidation on the fuse on a fairly regular basis?

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

What is the purpose of the grommets? Genuinely don’t know. Edit: from what I found on Google it’s to eliminate sharp edges that might cut through the rubber on the wire

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

I believe that I used the smallest wire they recommended (10-12 awg IIRC) but each cable was 10-12 ft long ... so I think that should be 4 AWG since the total wire run would be 20-24 feet. Yeah, the only way I could see someone wanting to use the current limiting feature would be if they got the...

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

Decided on keeping the 20a charger instead of upgrading. I will be upgrading the wiring though to 4 AWG and a new fuse of course. I think I might have used wiring that was not heavy enough gauge for the run length, got confused when reading the manual, but 4 awg looks to be good for their worst...

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

There is a potential this could be the cause. I actually had the wire pull out of the ring connector when installing and had to recrimp it. For what it’s worth, everything seemed to be going fine with this setup til today (or yesterday at the earliest). I was running it for an extended period...

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

Didn’t use any protection , just ran it through a hole (factory, not sharp or anything afaik). Cable looks to be in good shape.

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

Input. It was the positive cable connected to the starter battery. The fuse melted only on one side - the side connected to the starter battery. On the other side of the fuse (connected to dc dc charger) everything looks like it wasn’t effected. Manual actually calls for 30a fuse on that side...

Transit Connect (2016) Renogy DC DC Charger Install

Soooo one side of my 30a Renogy ANL fuse melted and this is no longer working (I’m sure that’s a good thing 😅) The only problem is I don’t know why / what to do next. The manual did call for a “25A or close” fuse, closest I could find was 30A. Only other thing I can think of is maybe some...

How soon will electric or hybrid vans/RVs be common?

I think it will be 10-15 years before the prices start getting decent. Maybe sooner on the lower range (range as in available travel distance) vans, as longer range vans come out. If tech improves that could also lower prices on the vans with inferior tech.

How soon will electric or hybrid vans/RVs be common?

I hope soon we will have affordable EV RVs and vans ... there are a few EV vans out already, mostly with shorter range, but the VW one coming out does have a good range. IMO people doing full time van / RV life probably have a lower carbon footprint compared to someone living in an apartment or...

How soon will electric or hybrid vans/RVs be common?

There is no good reason for humanity to continue using fossil fuels (except nuclear, if you consider that a fossil fuel) in the long term. We can produce all the power we need (and much more) using solar and nuclear. In the long term this will be much better for the planet and everyone's...

Class A or Class C - possible to park full time without paying for a camp site?

Thanks for all the tips - sounds like to me it could work if you make a detailed plan but would just be easier to boondock at a free campsite somewhere. Mostly worried about the gas costs - as right now they are pretty minimal unless I'm traveling. Usually fill up only 2-3 times per month right...

Class A or Class C - possible to park full time without paying for a camp site?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I have noticed a lot (maybe even most) cities have some kind of ordinance about sleeping in vehicles. Haven't had a problem in these places so far, but I'm not out west either (have heard most of the more strict places are out west). My van is not the stealthiest for...

Class A or Class C - possible to park full time without paying for a camp site?

Currently I am doing van life, and it's worked out pretty decent for me, mostly have been camping in cities ... but the lack of space is starting to get to me! This has me thinking, maybe I could find a Class A or Class C RV on the smaller side and city camp for free (other than emptying tanks)...
