    Hurricane approaching SE.....

A friend asked me to post this here. The State of W Virginia is offering a 55% discount at their state parks to anyone fleeing Florence. www.wvstateparks.com If you book online you can use discount code: FLORENCE There's a popup on their homes page that shows this. Stay safe.

Rare Turtle I Encountered in SC

I used to see those all the time as a kid in NE Ohio. Didn't realize they had become endangered. Very cool you found one.

    Bad Day in Florida

    The view is probably amazing...

Philosophy, I need to stop this and get away.

It's amazing how much the stuff we own, really owns us.  I got an amazing sense of freedom every time I got rid of something that had previously been "needed" or "worth something to me" or just something "I might need some day".  You might not be wired that way, but you might want to consider...

Survey of camping habits: where do you camp?

Most of national forest and state campgrounds I've stayed at had water and electric on site and a common dump station on the premises. These have mostly been places in the Appalachians though, not out west.

Survey of camping habits: where do you camp?

I think most private campgrounds would be ok with a factory Class B, I was trying to say I'm not sure they'd be ok with just a van.  Not saying its right or anything...

Survey of camping habits: where do you camp?

If you commit to staying a month, you can find a lot of private campgrounds/RV Parks that are $300 a month, plus electricity (at least in the South - more expensive up north/east), which usually works out to about $12 a night for me.  A month gives me enough time to truly explore the area and...

Elderly budget care-campground plus. Who would be interested?

Escapees offers something similar: https://escapees.com/support/care [from link above] Continuing Assistance for Retired Escapees CARE answers the question, "What happens to full-time RVers when they cannot take care of their own or their spouse's needs following an illness, injury, surgery...

    Legalities of residency

My Escapees Mail Service address in Livingston, TX worked just fine to get my Texas driver's license and to register my vehicles. It's also my address for my federal taxes, insurance and bank account.... so I wouldn't say they NEVER work. (and yes, my DL has the Real ID star on it).

Who would be best to cut a cab access door?

I'd google for "commercial vehicle outfitter" in your area. I'd bet one of them would have the skills to do that job well.

(Re)establishing my life, limited support, could use input if you don't mind

There's quite a few RV Dealerships between Austin and San Antonio. I'd suggest taking a drive down and visiting a few to look at models. PPL is huge: https://www.pplmotorhomes.com/used-rvs-for-sale/travel-trailer?sortBy=price+asc  Not suggesting you buy there, but you can do some window shopping...

    Amputating The Anchors

I sold my Aprilia back to the dealer a few years ago. That stung, but it was necessary. Tried to sell all my gear, but that proved more trouble than it was worth, so I gave it all away to a fellow rider I met. He was very happy. I've since bought a little 149cc scoot (SYM Wolf Classic 150) I...

Anyone use a compact 12V vacuum cleaner?

I have a Black & Decker Dustbuster Lithium Flex.  It works well. Has a cleanable filter and the attachments let me get into nooks and crannies. It does a fairly decent job of picking up pet hair too. (and cat litter.... sigh. I'm constantly sweeping up cat litter...)

REMOVING PASSENGER SIDE SEAT with AIR BAG ELECTRONICS Ford Transit Van

Good luck even disconnecting the battery. The Transit starter battery is located UNDER the driver's seat and you have to about tear IT apart to get to the battery.  Guess the good news is it isn't as affected by the cold?

    Mobile RV Mechanics in TX?

I'd call an RV Park nearest to where you need a rig inspected and ask them who they recommend as a mobile rv tech. They almost always have someone they recommend to the people staying there.  I'm in TX, but way too far south to recommend someone local to me at the moment.

Need Laptop Internet Access On Road & Home

I work from my RV (I own a specialty web design and marketing company). On average, I use right around 1 GB of data a month. (mostly work, checking forums, etc. The occasional youtube video at low res).  I bought a Verizon Jetpack AC791L 4GLTE  from a Verizon store with a data plan. I chose...

    Propane Fridge process...

I run my fridge (in a class c) on propane while driving. Never had a problem and have talked to lots of folks who do the same.  I try to remember to shut it completely off when I stop to refuel.  I've also run the generator while going down the road if it's really hot out and I know I'll be...

    Hauling a Motorcycle

I found a garage to weld in some extra bits to my hitch and bought a Harbor Freight motorcycle hitch carrier.  Found a new SYM Wolf Classic 150 to put on it. It's a 150cc motorcycle that's 266 lbs wet. Electric start (and a kickstarter) with carbs. It'll do 60 with a little persuasion. Perfect...

Looking for a legal residential address in Arizona

That's exactly how it works... (my vehicles are registered in TX).  Here's the page from TX DPS:  https://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/vi/texasRegVeh.htm If you're out of state at inspection renewal, you have 3 days upon returning to TX to get the inspection done.  You can do the vehicle...

Serious discussion about building a trailer to driver seat vestibule

Probably be easier to put in an escape hatch in the ceiling of the trailer and a big remote controlled moon roof in the truck....
