    Making the vehicle more cozy/homey?

Sorry this question is kind of broad.  I'm almost done with my conversion of a hybrid SUV,  I crawled into the back, laid down, and just had this general feeling that it wasn't quite as cozy or 'homey' as I thought it would be... despite weeks of installing LEDs, sink, vanity cabinet, etc.  It...

    Motion detectors

Cops might break your window to let the 'poor dog' out I've thought about this for a while; the only option I see is a motion sensor that activates the taillights/headlights like a remote unlock fob would do... that way the would-be intruder thinks you're watching him from the other side of the...

Musings on the Van Dwelling Spectrum

For me it's a lot simpler- why NOT make your vehicle a living space? If you're American you most likely need a car to get by. A vehicle entitles you to roughly 5 feet by 15 feet of 'free' space on a city street. Ever since I was a kid, I thought it was such a huge waste of space to just...

Buy pre-wired LEDs, don't do the dyi/Superbrightleds.com thing

Correction: soldering iron.  I always just called it a gun. Guys, I've wired entire homes before no problem and have done other forms of carpentry for 20+ years.  Never have I found anything even remotely as difficult as trying to solder 5 wires within less than a millimeter of each other over...

Buy pre-wired LEDs, don't do the dyi/Superbrightleds.com thing

I bought a soldering gun, spent hours trying to melt the RGBW wires on the strip; didn't work, wouldn't stick, etc. Sounds like you probably got one of their easier monochrome strips.

Buy pre-wired LEDs, don't do the dyi/Superbrightleds.com thing

This is the second time I've bought hundreds of dollars worth of led strips and accessories from them only to have no explanation given as to how to connect the strips and, after days of labor on my vehicle, only to have them not work.  I watched dozens of youtube videos to try to see how my...

Hairdryers- do battery or low wattage exist?

Found it; couple hundred watts at 120vac

Hairdryers- do battery or low wattage exist?

This looks like a good solution, also multi-purpose.  Any idea how many watts the battery charger pulls?

Hairdryers- do battery or low wattage exist?

Trying to find a hairdryer that pulls less than 900W at 120VAC or is battery-charged.  Maybe I should just buy one of those Dyson dust-busters and reverse it so it blows?  Heat isn't really necessary.  No she can't just stick her head out the window at 70 mph ;)

Switch to turn inverter on 6ft away?

On a related note, there sure are a lot of exposed hot terminals in this device... what am I supposed to do? wrap the whole thing in a wad of electrical tape?

Is the road less traveled becoming a super highway?

You omit the non-natives though, who are exploding in population.  Canada for instance recently became the first country in history to be on track to voluntarily displace its population with people from somewhere else:  80% of Canadians will be non-native within a century. 50% of Londoners now...

Renting a driveway or a spot on private property?

It's an awesome idea... I know so many parking lots/gravel areas around marinas etc with AMAZING views in my city.  I'm going to inquire around too.  $150 a month or so is doable for me.   But it's tough, because if you outright say what you'll be doing they may feel compelled to say no...

    Solar Eclipse

Anyone know any good dispersed camping that can be done on BLM desert land in Oregon? I read they're closing down a lot of roads and parking lots so I'm looking for a remote spot, especially where I won't get any hassle from those ranchers that lease the BLM land (then act like they own it). I...

    Pay parking options for stealth-ers?

I'm wondering about times when it's late in the day or I just don't have time or energy or to find a free place to park my stealth vehicle.  What options are there for stealth folk for undisturbed paid parking short of an RV campground?  All I can think of are those massive public airport...

    Best hinge for folding bed?

Anyone use one of these gravity-driven drafting table hinges for a folding bed in your rig?  I want to be able to lift the last third of my bed about 45 degrees to get to storage underneath, without having to prop it up or do anything complicated.  It's my understanding these hinges lock in...

    Make Beer, Not Walls

Easy for a Scot to chaff us here; if we did the same on Hadrian's Wall I wager it wouldn't be so daft eh ;)

    SternWake

Haven't read the story but someone needs to get him back! I've followed his posts for years and never seen a post that wasn't measured and helpful... someone must have really screwed up to make him want to leave?? Wasn't the guy like an electrical engineer or something? Anyway, just my two cents.

Safely drilling holes in floor of vehicle

I thought of that- I could just drill with a small bit first and see if it's double plated or not; if it is I could epoxy the hole closed, if not I could then try to drill the 3" hole.

Safely drilling holes in floor of vehicle

Highlander hybrid; basically a big Prius- LOTS of stuff above and below... most of it the giant battery bank.

Safely drilling holes in floor of vehicle

I thought drilling 3" vent holes in the floor of my new Toyota SUV would be straightforward, like in the bed of the truck I had before, but on inspection there is a LOT of stuff both above and below the floorboard, not to mention I can't really tell if the floorboard is double-plated... so even...
