I love that remote start idea!  Definitely need to look into that... I would feel quite safer personally if I had that. I feel approaching this from a safety perspective is the way to go.  It's a shame I feel like I need their permission to do things but as I've said, they are an intervening...

Wonderfully said!  I suppose I do worry too much about what my support base will or  won't find acceptable.  They are a crowd that likes to give interventions- 'you know you have other options, you know you're going to miss out bring here for this and that, you know you aren't normal, right?'...

    Van dwelling and minimalism

Thanks for the input guys!  I've all but decided that what started out as a 'hardly ever sleep in the van, mostly stay in a tent' kind of lifestyle will be an 'always sleep in the van' thing after all.  I do love the space and ventilation of a tent... this one is a 14x9 pop up that is mostly...

Oh, and Mack's ultra soft foam ear plugs off Amazon are very comfortable to sleep in and cancel noises down drastically. Highly recommend!!

It's good to know it is possible.  I guess I'm one of those that believes the less possessions the better (for me personally that is), and giving up the tent camping would definitely get me down to basics. If it works out that I do well inside my van without feeling the needed to camp in a tent...

Thanks for those links!  I know I'm crazy for wanting to do Niagra again, especially in the crowded summer season, but when I was there before I just fell in love with it.  I've been looking forward to going back for years. Consequently, it is the only place I have ever seen solid black...

    Van dwelling and minimalism

I leave my campsite here in Ohio on Monday and am heading slowly north to Niagra Falls.  I've spent all I want to spend on campsites this month so I will be staying in my minivan for the remainder of August.  Until now, the longest stretch I have gone is 5 nights without getting a site to put up...

    Van-Tramp adventures 2015

The plan is to follow the weather so after bunking down in Florida for the winter I will definitely be heading north. Maybe hit the Yellowstone area for the spring and then go up to AK for the summer. I just needed a passport

I have nothing helpful to contribute to this but now when I hear the term 'bucket list' I think of this thread ;)

That is much cheaper. I wonder if the panels could be mounted to the racks on top of my van. Seems a hole would have to be drilled into the van for the cord as well. I am definitely going to need to research this as I would love to be able to charge my phone and a fan. If I could do that I...

    Alternative to parking lots

I would personally put myself in the too trusting, not enough fear to be sensible category... but that has also worked out for me this long lol ;)  I think I may join both this and couchsurfing for driveway potential.  I do feel pretty safe being locked in my van... If trouble arises I can just...

Do you mean something like this? http://www.goalzero.com/mobile/p/140/Goal-Zero-Yeti-1250-Solar-Generator I've considered it, but for that price I think I could get mounted panels on my van, which I would prefer over portable.  I think the risk of theft is less that way...

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have tried to respond to a message to Guy about 5 or 6 times and have failed miserably each time.  I need to figure out how to reply in messages somehow. I do have a 3 port USB adapter that plugs into my cigarette lighter in the front, and charge my...

Hi Kathryn :) I have a Dodge Caravan with stow and go and had a friend take the seats out for me.  You should be able to travel comfortably, have good stealth, and get pretty good mpg. Hopefully your back windows are tinted- if not I would recommend it. I live on a very tight budget but manage...

a big thumbs up to this forum!

As a newbie I completely agree... Some forums have established cliques that are hard to fit in. This one doesn't come across that way at all :)
