    Where to get water?

I think a non potable spigot would be labeled as such, and surely the attendants would not let you use it if the water wasn’t safe.

    Where to get water?

Well, I don’t always look for them, and I don’t know that relying on water at a gas station should be one’s only option, but it is there, and is an option.

    Where to get water?

I have filled at gas stations, too, at spigots on the side of the building After getting fuel and asking permission, of course. ☺️

    Flu Season 2025

I’ve been reading about how bad the flu season is this year. I had the pneumonia series, all my Covid’s and get the annual flu vaccine because my PCP tells me I should, I’ve never had the flu, and not one to even get a cold, particularly since retired, but, ya know, getting older it is good to...

    1 Year Checking In

Good for you, and thanks for the update. I LOVE the train, and have been doing a long distance round trip once a year the past few. Safe travels.

    My van plan

Yes to this, X 10. The best way to know exactly what you need and must have is to get out with the bare minimum and try it out. Some have recommended marking off an area equivalent to your van space in your current living environment, then sketching out/marking off with tape your planned...

    rice cooker vs. instant pot

The small InstantPot is just right for me, and still makes enough for 2-3 meals. I have cooked rice, polenta, and steel cut oats in mine, as well as meats and soups.

My dog is ready to go

When we found Lily, she was less than a year old, and my husband was still alive, who did the driving. She liked to ride in my lap in the shotgun seat, until she got so big she would leave bruises on my legs and so I made her a spot on the floor between us. After the husband died, her...

    rice cooker vs. instant pot

Instant pot, in which you can also cook perfect rice. ☺️

My dog is ready to go

When I would begin moving things to the front door area, preparing to load the van, my current lab mix would watch all that very carefully, laying nearby and each time I came back inside her tail would wag, like “is it time, is it time???” 😅 They are wonderful traveling companions.

My dog is ready to go

Well, you are welcome to your opinion, maki2, but I will have mine. ☺️ In this case she described a dog (spirit) who was a rather large dog, a family dog who “liked to go on adventures in a vehicle of some sort”. Not rides in the car, but “adventures”, not a small lap dog, but described this...

    Horror story

Well, I sold my 07 Sprinter conversion van last year at 128,000 miles. I prided myself on the excellent maintenance of its very excellent diesel engine, and sent with it all service records. If I were to recommend one thing for a used vehicle, it would be to get the service records. If the...

My dog is ready to go

Awww. We/I have traveled with two dogs, first a Brittany Spaniel and for the past 14+ years, a lab mix. Both LOVED to go bye-bye in the motor home, (3), and the first RV lived in the back yard between trips. The Brittany died in 2004, the lab mix is still with me, and in 2022 my daughter and...

Why is Vanlife so discouraged...Are we really a disgrace?

I don't think van life is generally looked down upon, but there are behaviors on occasion that become an issue...like littering, emptying waste inappropriately, etc. Just don't let yourself become one of those, and then get out and enjoy it. Some people are uncomfortable with and threatened...

    Winter 2025 weather outlook January

I am usually in the panhandle of Florida this time of year, and there is no escaping this storm system anywhere down there, But, I sold my rig and (mostly) retired from the road last year. 😅

Do you have a plan for when the S#$%^T hits the fan

Planning to move into an assisted living or similar facility when the time comes is a good plan, as long as we are able to plan. So often these decisions are taken out of our hands by strokes, accidents, etc., and then our families, if we have one, are left to deal with it all in an emergency...

What have I gotten myself into??

Yep, this sounds like a rolling mess you do not want to take on. Keep looking, something will come along.

Do you have a plan for when the S#$%^T hits the fan

If we don’t die suddenly, many of us die with hospice care, who seem to be experts in providing end of life care. I haven’t heard this about morphine and other pain medications, but I would not want to die in agony. I hope and suspect hospice has found a way to ease pain while allowing one to...
