    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

Headed back after getting 4 days off. Saw this guy in the Walmart parking lot in Mobile, Al. It was very loud and would suggest other places than there.

    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

I travel usually for work. If I have to drive to the office, which I’m an independent contractor, so I change companies a lot. My wife goes on trips with me all the time. But mostly we do yearly big trips and weekends in the summer. It’s winter so I’m grinding it out.

Thanks. I usually travel in the south and east coast. I do make a once a year trip west, but stay mostly southeast. I’m scheduled to get off around the 4-5th of next month. I’ll post some pics later this week. I should be passing through New Orleans on the river in the next couple days.

    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

Another night (3rd night) in Morgan City. Hopefully my last until next week. Night before last I parked in Walmart parking lot and didn’t get any sleep. It’s was super loud. After getting a physical and MRI, I treated myself to Parish Brewing. They have a beer called Ghost in the Machine...

    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

Thanks! I just got laid off. No big deal, comes with the territory. So I’m on the job hunt. Stayed 2 blocks from the French Quarter last night. Left Nola, went to Morgan City, which is a couple hours away. My van down by the river. If nothing comes up, I’ll be headed home tomorrow.

    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

Thanks. This was my first round, so we’ll see from here. Some dummy bent a rudder on the boat, no it wasn’t me. So I did a tour around my city. I wanted to get stamps for my National Parks, they were closed. I’ll go tomorrow and get the passport stamp. Chalmette National Cemetery...

    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

My van had 379,122 miles on it when I changed the oil. I sent a oil sample off for analysis, just to see if anything was going on. I’m happy to report, no issues. I bought this van 3 years ago for $2200. Since then I’ve put another $10k in it on 4wd stuff and everything else. So I’m $12k in...

    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

Oh yea, the summer mayflies. We get them literally by the millions. And they stink so bad.... And it's a 20 year old van with almost 400k miles. I expect this type of stuff to happen. It just sucks when it does! Thanks! I work the Ohio River in the summer. It's dead up there in the winter. We...

    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

Since I was delayed a day for work because of the breakdown, I got to watch the LSU/Clemson game. My buddy owns a bar in New Orleans (where I’m originally from), and I went to his bar to watch the game. I go there because he’s a good friend and my money isn’t good there. Which is bad for him...

    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

I was headed back to work in the rain and suddenly at 10 pm, my wipers quit working. I was in Birmingham (about half way to work). I pulled over, started checking fuses. Nothing. Then I manually tried to move the wipers and boom. Broken linkage. The clip that holds the linkage to the wiper...

    WTB E-series raised top.

Go to car-part.com, look up any part (like a fender/hood/door, etc), then look for pictures of the van. Call the junkyard and ask how much for the roof. I paid $300 for mine including the rear doors. All you need to attach it to the roof is 3M 5200 fast cure. Not one screw is needed.

I built a rear tire carrier and cargo box. I also took the van to Sierra Nevada. Back to work tomorrow and another 850 mile trip.

    CaptainBuilt’s Adventures!

Even with them starting with a new F-550, they're $55k new, then MAYBE another $75k in the RV. But I doubt that. I'm just counting labor.  It's just a fiberglass box. I've saw a video on the box construction and it's fiberglass / plywood / foam / plywood / fiberglass. If you lookup "Foamies" in...
