How Long can I run my 12V electric blanket off Car Battery

There's something satisfying about waking up in a nice and warm coccoon when you can see your breath and the temps are below freezing. On those morning I'd give anything for a catheter.

    Gray water... why?

If you've been peeing outdoors without bothering anyone, it's probably OK to dump a similar amount of dish water.

    Gray water... why?

I saw on a video of a van conversion, where they had a small tank under the van for the sink and shower. The tank had a drain on it. Depending on the location, they would either leave the drain open so it would run onto the ground or they would leave it closed and drain it later, perhaps on...

Efficiency in a van electrical system?

Just a small consideration when sizing an inverter. The bigger the inverter, the bigger the wire, fuse, etc. Consider what your high wattage appliances are and if they are ever, or likely going to be used together. I have a 700 watt coffee maker. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I usually...

    Korean company choreographs van conversions.

I've been following 2 women on You Tube who go by the name Vanwives. I'm not particularly interested in anybody's van travels, but 3 years ago they bought a run down cabin in rural Nova Scotia and have converted it into an oasis. Their tool collection and accumulated skills have been a fun...

    Korean company choreographs van conversions.

I recently watched a video of a couple who do conversions for a living. For most of the plywood walls and many other pieces, they had full size paper drawings that they gued to the plywood, cut out and stripped the paper. I don't know if these were their own or purchased.

    Korean company choreographs van conversions.

I don't know if they work on more than one type of van or if they offer more than one type of conversion. If this is the only model they offer, they can probably knock off at least 2 per day. They seem to have every move and every detail worked out.

    Seeking rig photos

This is the recently updated power station in the Kia Sportage RV. In place of the rear seat, on the other side, I built a wooden storage which aso serves as part of the bed. I enter from the other side.

    Met a Nomad

A few days ago I pulled into a rest stop along the highway to stretch my legs and use the facilities. There were 2 hitch hikers at the entrance. I lamented, not for the first time, that taking out 2 seats and and building in a bed, kitchen and other facilities in a car didn't leave room for...

Making it work and look better and safer

Sometimes it's lovely to just pull over to a rest stop or scenic spot and make your own cup of coffee. I once had a 12 volt coffee maker I got at a truck stop. It used less power but took a long time. When it died I switched to a small domestic coffee maker which requied a larger inverter...

    Wind deflector

It is easy to get lost in here. This is a forum for people who build all kinds of campers and other things out of foam. Randomly follow some leads and see if they give you some ideas. https://www.tnttt.com/viewforum.php?f=55

Making it work and look better and safer

My schedule is dictated by Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), so this has taken a while. I've got the board and its components hooked up. I built a panel for the box where the front seat used to be. It has a monitor for power going into the battery from the DC - DC charger...

    cooking simple food in car

All of my spices come in small V8 juice cans. If cooking rice, mix 50/50 with water.

    Wind deflector

Yes, pictures would help ! If I have anywhere near the right image, you might try building up the rough shape you want with layers of styrofoam. You don't need to fill in the entire centre area. You don't need to use large pieces that reach the entire width, as long as the seams don't line...

Making it work and look better and safer

Thanks, I'll do that. I do usually put a prop under it. About 40 years ago I had a hood come up while driving. I should have thought of that.

    Camping Rules and Regulations

How is it that Jon Stewart posts relevant comments on the same day you go looking for them. A lot of people define poverty in a lot of different ways. If a factory closes, putting a husband and wife with 2 kids out of work and unable to pay the mortgage, they are not going to rent a room in...

Making it work and look better and safer

Thanks, The only significant runs are from the panels and the car battery. I ran the wire for the DC charger in through the air intake for the car ventilation system, so it's not really to bad. I didn't want to drill holes in the car and I was tired of the wires from the panels entering...

Making it work and look better and safer

It's far from finished, but I reached an important milestone before the sun forced me inside. After installing the fuses, I turned on the main power switch and then the inverter. The green light came on and there were no alarms. That was as far as I tested it for now. I turned on the solar...

Making it work and look better and safer

Another part of this project was a bit of a step up in some of my tools. Better tools for cutting, stripping and crimping wires up 8 gauge. These tools aren't happy happy stripping 6 or 4 gauge wire. Linesman's pliers are still the main cutting and stripping tool for the big stuff. When it...

Making it work and look better and safer

I already had a monitor and shunt for solar. I bought an identical one for consumption. I've heard that, but solar breaker, charge controller, inverter all have set-screws. I figured adding a fuse box with set-screws, with the wires secured to the board, in an easy to check area is a vast...
