No sparkplug firing while starter turns engine over on low battery

Thanks Maddad63. You are so correct. I learned these things rather slowly. Hope others are learning from you a lot faster. I bought a new battery, and then ran it down twice during the next year, so I recently had to buy a new battery, again. But this time, I went a step further and...

New York Times article - How NOT to experience van life........

What article? I'd really like to see it, but your link https://www.youtube.com/sofisintown goes to a channel instead of a video or article.

    My Four Seasons of Vanlife

There is an old Hindu saying, "When a pickpocket meets a saint, all he sees are his pockets." This is true of all of us, certainly including me. We each have things we can relate to in another person, places where we both resonate with the same vibrations. But at the same time, we remain blind...

NEVER park on a beach at low tide! (VIDEO from 2 vans almost washed away)

They became stuck on a beach when the high tide rolled in, saturating the sand under their tires which then sank into it. This story is amazing, filmed as it was happening. There are some spontaneous swear words; but my gosh, they were beyond upset, they were totally scared!

Keeping warm in sub-freezing weather, using only a tiny amount of fuel for heat.

Since the wind blows rather constantly across the entire west coast coming in from the Pacific Ocean -- kept warm by the deep water -- there is very little severe cold there. I lived way up on the Olympic Peninsula near Forks for a couple of years, and it seems deep freezes just don't happen...

Keeping warm in sub-freezing weather, using only a tiny amount of fuel for heat.

Very good question! I attribute the difference to two factors: (1) You were using a Mr. Buddy, which dumps 100% of its heat right inside where you need it. I, on the other hand, use an externally ventilated propane furnace that had to keep heating the incoming 19F outside air for its...

Best way to check forecast of a large area

That's incredible how much useful info that shows, while so easy to use and understand. Thank you, abnorm! That's MY map now.

I just discovered iOverlander.com thanks to a YouTube blogger who uses it, and it's wonderful!

    Probably leaving the forum

My policy has long been to give $20 once each month to whichever software or website has helped me the most (not giving to the same one twice in a year). I realize that if everyone did that, good software would truly THRIVE while staying free for those of us who are too poor to afford even $20...

Birds on the road..... My parrot love to go for car rides, but we're not so crazy as to take her out with us camping...

You said in your title: "My parrot love to go for car rides, but we're not so crazy as to take her out with us camping..." Well, here's the story of a much-loved parrot who actually did VanLife to the fullest. But yeah, accidents can happen. One night, his cage was left open, and he decided to...

    Starting My First Build!

So here is the section called Conversions and Modifications to jump to. I suggest giving your post there the same title as you have here, "Starting My First Build!", and leaving a link directly into it at the end of this thread. I agree your van is perfect, and so clean. You couldn't have a...

Keeping warm in sub-freezing weather, using only a tiny amount of fuel for heat.

My first winter in White Cloud (my van), I experimented by setting the propane furnace to 45F around the clock. I was hoping my van's thick wool insulation would keep the propane tanks healthy. But I was wrong; both 20 lb tanks of propane were empty after only three days! Actually, part of...

    I've been a member for some time.....but.........

All three of you have truly interesting stories. Wow! I wish more people in the forum could write as you do; fully, honestly, and so interestingly. And I can identify with everything you said, starting with being slow to get things done as an old man, quick to run out of energy, and concern for...

Best wall covering for my van build?

Yeah, I used to think they were plants, and only recently learned of the classification change. There is mention of this change in the Biology Dictionary, which in part reads: "In the early years of scientific study, fungi were part of the plant kingdom. Since that time they have been given...

How did you end up on the road, and why are you still here?

"How did you end up on the road, and why are you still here?" is exactly the question I answered in my thread: "My Four Seasons of VanLife" just a few days ago.

    My Four Seasons of Vanlife

Because I spoke of "Chris McCandless" and "The Magic Bus" above, my brother sent me this fantastic video. It is Chris' sister, Carine, giving a Ted Talk in which she explains so very well the deeper part of the story, not told in the book, not told in the movie. Everyone should see this and...

    My Four Seasons of Vanlife

SEASON THREE: (my fourties) Then came "Bread Truck". Not a fancy name I guess, but that's what she actually was. It was in Bread Truck that I invented my 144-chord autoharp, building the first four of them. I also re-invented Pat Flanigan's Neurophone in her which was supposed to give the...

    My Four Seasons of Vanlife

PRE-SEASON: (my kid & teen years) From the time I was a small kid -- dreaming as I swayed back and forth high above the ground in our backyard swing -- I imagined traveling all over America in a small airplane or a balloon, believing someday I would do so. The concept was born when I was in...

    Connecting solar panels

I had trouble finding this item because searching for tk15 brought up a lot of different products. But by using Google image search on your picture of it, I found a version on Amazon at the same price. Same price you stated.

I've discovered a unique way to keep my van considerably COOLER.

I googled your word "mylar" and learned that "Mylar reflective insulation is comprised of polyester and aluminum, resulting in a silver-colored radiant barrier that reflects radiant heat." So that's what she must have been talking about. Her windows must look silver from the outside, reflecting...
