[GONE] Free 12v propane van furnace in Arlington, Texas

The girl I care for, Diem Nguyen, suggested we three meet at Starbucks right up the street, and maybe get a great meal at Chipotle (next to Starbucks). This picture shows the light at the same intersection on the left, and the Starbucks & Chipotle on the right. During my first year with the...

[GONE] Free 12v propane van furnace in Arlington, Texas

You bring me many smiles. 🙃 :) 🚐:giggle: I was serious in message #1 where I said "come to Arlington, Texas, and offer me a tour of your van, showing me where you plan to install it." I need to know you really do have a good place for it. I put mine right behind the dirver's seat, which is...

Needing an outdoor cover for my hitch-mounted scooter

Yeah. These Rat **** Straps look like what I should use. Thanks for the tip. In 2005, I bought a BBQ cover from Lowes for $45. About like yours, it lasted one year and then tore open in a number of places (and started decomposing before my eyes as well). So I went back to Lowes and told the...

    Best Blanket

I find I can handle temperatures as low as 30F, but below that, the air entering my nose is uncomfortably cold, so I always turn on some propane heat. Therefore, ratings below 30F would never apply to me.

    Best Blanket

Well, I slept in a down sleeping bag one night in a tent in a rain forest of the Olympic National Forest, and was cold! The next morning, I asked the nearest neighbor how I could have been so cold, and she explained that down feathers don't stay warm when wet. It takes wool, she said. She...

    Propane information

Be sure to use the HIGH PRESSURE hose meant for propane between tank and regulator. I did things a little wrong at the beginning. The scariest of several mistakes was the time I turned on the tank just a tiny-tiny bit with a rubber hose connected to it, thinking a tiny-tiny bit of propane...

    Propane information

I have two large propane bottles in my van. Between them is a regulator that automatically switches from one bottle to the other when one goes empty and shows red in a little window to let me know the tank the dial points to is empty, so I can replace it instead of being unpleasantly surprised...

    Best Blanket

I love my "Mini Car Electric Blanket, 20 x 24inch Comfytemp 12V 24V Electric Travel Throw with 4 Heat Levels, 5 Auto-Off & Stay on". I slept with it wrapped around my chest under a lightweight jacket, all night, and it kept me toasty warm with the temperature of my van set to 38F. It pulled...

How can I secure my van's doors against someone breaking a window to reach in and opening the door?

Here's the final version of what I'm doing to secure my van: 1. Security film on the windows. This page has the size and length I need (out of their 14 choices), which is 24 inches by X 24 feet. Also, I read you need the 8mil to be strong enough to keep thieves out, even though 4mil and 2mil...

[GONE] Free 12v propane van furnace in Arlington, Texas

True. It will require purchasing a simple two-wire thermostat like the $14 one shown below, where temperature rotates a bimetal spring with a tiny magnet that snaps the metal contacts of the switch shut. More complicated / electronic thermostats won't work with this furnace.

[GONE] Free 12v propane van furnace in Arlington, Texas

I have the above $682.66 propane furnace, still new in its box. I want to give it to someone who cannot afford to buy their own. I want to give it to someone who will install it in their own van to keep toasty warm this winter, just like I have been doing in mine. I ordered one furnace, but...

    Don't trust biodegradable poop bags!

I'm preparing to boondock full-time again, starting in April. The "30-day" calculation is because that's how often I get my Social Security check.

    Don't trust biodegradable poop bags!

Thanks for the tip. I had not heard of Doody Bags, and it's an interesting answer. I do have the Luggable Loo seat on a 5gal bucket. But if I were to use one of these bags each day, that would cost me $16(box) / 6(bags) X 30.5(days) = $81.33(monthly). $81 each month for it is just too...

    Don't trust biodegradable poop bags!

I have every desire to protect the environment, being a "nature lover" (especially forests, mountains, rivers and seas). So I purchased biodegradable bags to poop into so I could bury them, doing no harm to the earth. But sometime during the year, the rolls became like thin paper that easily...

Security film on glass windows better than metal bars

You've provided extremely valuable information here, vital for anyone who plans to make serious use of security film. I certainly plan to follow all your advice. And I'm surprised this info doesn't pop up right away when searching for the best way to apply security film. The info you've given...

Security film on glass windows better than metal bars

This is a really great idea I didn't even know existed! Thank you so very much for sharing it. This will be far better than bars, at least in my case. But I have some questions for which I've been unable to find answers: 1) If installed on the outside, I think the window could cave in as it...

Security film on glass windows better than metal bars

I figure the windshield is a bit tough to "smash and grab". To withstand flying objects on the highway, it's made of two layers of very strong glass with a tough layer of plastic between them that hold them together even when broken, like store windows criminals unsuccessfully try to smash...

Security film on glass windows better than metal bars

UPDATE: I'm now only planning on security film, but to maintain thread history, here's my original message: I have the concept that I'd like to prevent anyone from crawling into my van through a window after breaking the glass. One bar across the window's center (or in larger windows, two...

Lithium Ion Batteries and the Phenomenon of Thermal Runaway

For me -- and I assume for everyone else too -- this thread's primary purpose is to help people understand how NOT to destroy their home-on-wheels with a battery fire, explaining what the causes of such fires are and how to avoid them. I've tried to help by adding things I've learned.

Lithium Ion Batteries and the Phenomenon of Thermal Runaway

A common misunderstanding is that all lithium-ion batteries are the same. There are different chemistries available that provide various advantages and disadvantages. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4 ) batteries cannot be made in the small sizes required for most consumer electronics, however...
