I want to know where he gets health insurance for $80 a month. I paid about 3x that when I wasn't much older for a high deductible policy with no health problems...
....just found this kitchen. Aesthetic win.

Took me quite a while to spot it, but it's 5390 Euros, which is about $7500 US I think.Ouch! But "unfurnished" in Europe often means the kitchen has no cabinets or appliances or even a sink sometimes, so I can see where there'd be a market for them with mobile people who have some money.
kitchen cleanup

Storage space, weight, water, and waste are all major concerns for people living in small spaces, particularly a van or car. I thought of this one after some mention of paper towels for cleaning up dishes and pans.

Take a couple of old cotton t-shirts that aren't salvageable...

....just found this kitchen. Aesthetic win.

    Cyndi,

There's another version by Coleman, but I've seen a couple of complaints that the surface will be damaged if it gets wet, which seems odd in something meant for camping. Did you have any problems with that? It looks like the kind of thing I'd like to have myself...
Heaters for Vans

I've been tent camping when it got cold enough that we woke up to find the water in a bird bath frozen solid several times. We used an ordinary coleman lantern to get the tent warm enough to change (quickly), turned it off then stayed warm with hats, mittens and lots of good...

Thanks, Dragonfly! Those are some great photos!

I'm still in the planning stage. Unfortunately, I'm at least 10 months away from any possibility of moving into a traveling home, and more likely 20 months due to commitments. But I'm doing my research and paying attention to people in the...

    Staying clean

    Suanne,

You can put about a tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of warm water and pour it over your hair after you wet it down. Then rinse out. If you do this once every week or two, it might helpt tame the frizzies. I've used this in place of conditioner for years.

Dragonfly, thank you! I think I've seen that one, but it's a great one.

I agree that there are probably some drawbacks to traveling with one, maybe more wind drag and lower gas milage, but if I go with a towable, I think I'd put up with them to have something I felt was a real...

I love vardos, but I have mixed feelings about anything I'd have to tow and back up. I think it would be between those and sheepwagons if I wanted a towable home.

How many ladies would go for this?

I'd be hesitant to go with someone I didn't know extremely well without my own transportation, but as a kind of caravan partner pooling skills, resources, and 'protection' in my own camper van/truck, I like the idea. With separate "rigs", it's easier to go your separate ways if there's a...

    Scavenging

I used Freecycle some when it first emerged. But in our area, professional sellers just about took it over. Anything someone offered worth having, they jumped on it as soon as it was listed, and usually had it listed on Craig's list within 24 hours.. Pretty much put an end to most people's...

    Scavenging

Charity stores vary a lot. Some of them overprice the goods for second hand, which pretty much prices them out of the range of most of the people they're supposed to be helping. Some of them appear to let someone pick over the items before putting them out because the only things that...

    Scavenging

I have to agree, it's a horrible waste, and there's something so sad about people who not only refuse to donate things to charity when they're done with them, they want to make sure no one CAN benefit from their castoffs. I can't wrap my mind around that kind of selfishness and...

    Scavenging

One name for it is dumpster diving.

Most of my kids' early clothes were from curbside, thanks to my ex-MIL (a very sweet person) who worked for a garbage collection company. The people on the runs in the well-off neighborhoods would keep out and pool the almost-new...

    Staying clean

Has anyone tried making their own reusable wipes for quick showers? There are lots of recipes around, but after looking at some recipes, this would probably do the job:

1.5 to 2 cups water (usually distilled or boiled is suggested)
1-2 tblspns baby soap or baby shampoo or Dr. Bronner's...

    Single And Hating It

Hmmm, as most people do, I used relationship for a friendship that also has romantic involvement, however, English is not very exact. We could get philosophical here, but I'll just say I see three "classes": non-romantic friendships...

    Making Coffee

I hope it helps! Keep in mind that the syrup is messy to filter, and that it needs to be kept in a fridge or cooler after you make it, but it does make a really good cup of coffee too.
