Motorcyles and trailers - split from America's Quietest Roads

I've seen it myself when an older man who has never been a regular motorcycle rider starts riding and ends up getting hurt. On the other hand those old guys who have been riding all their life are safer riders and have a good understanding of their limits. IMO a trailer detracts from the riding...

    Inverter size and brand?

I've been using a Renogy 1000 sine wave inverter for a couple years 24/7 with no problems. The oldest inverter I have is a Xantrex 1000 modified sine wave from about 1993. Indestructible.

Motorcyles and trailers - split from America's Quietest Roads

Mainly to keep me upright while commuting to work on ice and snow covered roads but the wife and I took a couple of 1000+ mile trips with it.

Is there a cheap version of a gasoline heater that can be used at high altitude?

David McLucky does all kinds of tests on these heaters on his YouTube channel. Here's one where he tries to run one on gasoline.

    Pop top or not?

My 64 Ford Travel Wagon van had an all metal pop top that was fantastic but they're no longer made. Up or down in 10 seconds and no fabric to rot. The van is long dead but I kept the pop top which is now on my truck camper. Very clever design that still works after 58 years.

    Best adventures and places!

I'm most familiar with Oregon after living here most of my life. Yes the coast is great but also the Columbia River Gorge, Crater Lake, Cascade Lakes Highway, Newberry Crater, Fort Rock, Hells Canyon, Steen's Mtn., Alvord Desert, Ochoco Mtns, Painted Hills, Leslie Gulch, Three Finger Gulch...

Chinese diesel heaters don't work above 5000 feet elevation. Buyer beware!

This is an example of a controller with the plateau function. https://www.ebay.com/itm/125555264971?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=w5BNdcjOStG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=OBNvB0WBQ6-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY This type can be adjusted manually for any altitude. (This is my...

Chinese diesel heaters don't work above 5000 feet elevation. Buyer beware!

Many Chinese diesel heaters will work up to 10,000', you just need to get the right one and know how to use it. Say you bought the wrong one and it won't work at high altitude, what can you do? You get on eBay, or Amazon and order a proper replacement motherboard and control for about $30 and...

    Maps and Resources

I use Avenza for exploring national forest and blm land largely because it can display the official motor vehicle use maps (free). For roads I use OSMAND+ because all the maps can be stored on your phone so no cell connection is required.

Is getting a scooter a good idea?

Some scooters have larger diameter wheels nowadays. The Piaggio 150 has a 16" front and 14" rear and some Chinese scooters have 14" front and rear as opposed to the traditional 10" to 12". Some Honda scooters also use 14" wheels. I've owned Vespas with 8" wheels.

    No more fuel?

I was around in the early 70s, living in the Bay Area during the Arab oil embargo. Gas stations would put up red or green flags indicating whether they had fuel to sell or not. Lines several blocks long would quickly form as soon as a green flag went up. We figured out ways to cope. My method...

You don't need a gun in the wilderness

When it comes to cougar attacks it's likely you will never know it's nearby until you feel it's teeth crunching into your neck.

    Readying for the Cold

Try a diesel heater. There have been some all in one units on eBay for $70. You can test it out by placing it outside and running the outlet hose in through a window.

Is it okay to even have a pet as you age?

Australian sand monitor. Very smart for a lizard.

Is it okay to even have a pet as you age?

My pet kitty. Can't figure out why she doesn't purr. When I can no longer care for her I'll release her into the Arizona Desert. Just kidding. Other animals like this sand goanna make good pets and they attract attention when walking them in the park. Great chick magnets!

Motorcycle to use as a "toad" with van

I bought this Vitacci Clash 200 off Amazon a few months ago. Needed a flat floor because of physical issues and was looking for large diameter wheels, light weight, narrow body for easy loading onto the trailer. It's one of the higher quality Chinese scooters with a fuel injected Lifan engine...

Motorcycle to use as a "toad" with van

A Zooma 50 will only go 60 mph while being towed on a trailer. Not saying they're bad machines but don't expect anything close to 60 mph.

    Diesel heater fuel tank placement

I know some of the 2kw heaters are adjustable but not all. If the controller has an admin function than it should be adjustable.

    Diesel heater fuel tank placement

FYI The motherboard and controller switch can be swapped out on any of the 5kw or 8kw heaters if you want the ability to fine tune the air/fuel ratio although the "plateau mode" on some units can produce similar results. The 5kw and 8kw heaters are the same except for the switch and motherboard.
