Wow, Nevada residency is apparently expensive!!

What are you trying to do? And have you tried to do it through one of the homeless programs? Homeless people don't have receipts. One of the homeless programs can help you get a driver's license. Maybe you can get whatever else you need after that, since you'll be a resident then. Since I don't...

    Friendships and more

As long as you go to gatherings and talk to people, you'll meet a ton of people. While most people are at least somewhat independent - they have to be to leave the comfort of family and friends - you'll meet all kinds - crazy, spiritual, somewhat introverts, extroverts, conservatives, liberals...

    Dog or no dog?

That's what I was going to say! But it's worse because kids can go way more places than dogs. And when they get old it's heartbreaking. At the end, my dogs had to wear diapers, they got dementia, and they were always at the vets. Ugh. I couldn't imagine that in a vehicle.

    Dog or no dog?

You're welcome. I've owned several dogs - I completely adore rottweilers - and I'm an awesome dog parent so I know the work involved in caring for them properly. Oh, I forgot to add if you're going to be traveling full-time, you also have to consider what would happen if you got seriously sick...

    To store or toss??

Until someone has tried this life for awhile and know they want to live it long term, I suggest they get a storage unit. It's not an easy life and it's definitely not for everybody.

    Federal Benefit Programs

To supplement my income, I'm learning how to paint and make crafts to sell. I also save as much as I can (I know everyone can't save but that's how I'm preparing). There are some people who can't do anything but most people can do something to bring in additional money - sell on ebay, teach...

    Federal Benefit Programs

My ex-husband had a bunch from his grandparents and cashed them out to be part of the down payment on our house. We didn't need a down payment because we're both veterans but we wanted a lower mortgage. I'm definitely Team Savings Bonds. 🥰

    Dog or no dog?

For me it's NO DOG. They're too much work, they inhibit your freedom, and they make your life harder. I like to do things, see things, and be active. I love going to museums, book readings, movies, etc. I want to go ziplining, see tourist attractions, go to music festivals, ride rides at...

    SSI Increase for 2023

I'm overjoyed about it. And VA benefits are going up the same amount. Since it could have been 0%, I'm going to be grateful for the 8.7%.

How do u live on $700/month, truly?

I know people can live on $700 a month because I know people in subsidized housing who are actually living on $700 a month. I also know people who are on the streets homeless living on almost no money so to say $700 can't be done doesn't make sense to me. There are literally people doing it. I...

How do u live on $700/month, truly?

Nothing about that sounds easy. Getting enough calories just from foraging and road kill is going to be challenging, even in the summer, and close to impossible in the winter. One accident or sickness would kill you. So yeah, not the best idea.

Still trying to figure out bed in my car

I have this cot in my SUV. I had a friend cut the rail at one end to get the cot to fit in my SUV and I didn't install the middle bars so I could put totes underneath. The totes are tall and sturdy enough to support the middle section of the cot. It works great.

Off topic posts split from "How do u live on $700/month, truly?"

I think everyone would benefit from planning but I believe it's even more so for nomads who are choosing to limit their income so they can be as free as possible now. Because of their low wages, their social security is going to be low and it would be smart for them to think about how they're...

I agree that adults are always responsible for their choices but people are also really influenced, especially this generation raised on social media and fake news. I've been a part of the vanlife movement when it was still called vandwelling, no one had fancy van builds, and Two Knives Kate...

Everyone's situation has me wondering what all these people in their 20s are going to do after living this life. Most people struggling are living on social security and the amount you get from social security is based on the amount you put in. Bob and all these vanlifers are encouraging all...

Vehicle For Sale Selling my van

Maybe they can find something decent from a private seller but dealers here are paying outrageous prices for used vehicles because they're selling them for even more. I can't find a new van for anything near $34,000 from a dealer.

How can I secure my van's doors against someone breaking a window to reach in and opening the door?

Sweet. I want security film on my windows but no one in my area installs it. Hopefully I'll run across a shop that does on the road. Automobile locks and smash proof windows will keep out most people and thieves but reinforced handle areas and secondary locks are smart if you have the type of...

Security film on glass windows better than metal bars

Same here. Being in the boonies is nice sometimes but I would be bored stiff if I had to do it all the time. I'm probably 50/50 or 60/40 city to forest dwelling.

How do I keep windows from fogging up?

I'm glad she did. I didn't know window coverings could be the reason for condensation. I'll try removing the coverings if my damp rid containers and cracking the windows don't work.

How can I secure my van's doors against someone breaking a window to reach in and opening the door?

I suggest that anti-break in window film because locks don't make any sense to me. If someone breaks your window for a smash and grab, they have to see something on your seats or in your console to grab. A smash and grab is reaching into the vehicle through the window and grabbing whatever they...
