Medicare as a Nomad in 2024

I am now on a Medicare Advantage Plan which (lucky for me) I hardly ever use. It covers my yearly check-up and one fairly low-cost medicine. I have absolutely no idea if I picked a good plan (AARP-UHC) or if it is better or worse than standard Medicare. That is partly (mostly?) my own fault -...

    Interesting Articles Relating to EVs

    1. I don't trust ANYTHING from Scotty, the source of this video. He has posted way too many clickbait and biased videos. 2. While I once was a Musk fan, I am no longer. That doesn't mean everything he touches is now suspect. 3. I once worked at a company in NV making circuit boards. For those...

Homelessness [split from Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts]

I also found an article that says, "...influenced by a growing body of research that has found high costs of living to be the primary drivers of homelessness and argues that addiction and mental illness are more treatable when people are under a roof. As a result, many shelters created under the...

Homelessness [split from Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts]

Well, I spend most of my time in the Pac NW as well. Portland used to be my favorite city. Now... not so much. It certainly has a homeless problem. And homeless people living on the street in a cold wet place might be more likely to abuse something to get through the day/night. I don't think...

How do you stretch your income?

I applaud this effort. I'll add ... something... when it occurs to me. :)

    Social security

I'm with Carla on this one. What matters more is not whatever some people think SS was or what our investments should have been years ago, but how any proposed changes now would affect us personally. And maybe a bit of concern for the country's economic system in the future. In I wanted...

Florida House passes homeless public sleeping ban

This type of thing is just one reason I tend to avoid states like any of those stretching from Florida to Texas. Depending on how it is interpreted, I am sure our entire mobile lifestyle is illegal in many of those states. And to tell a tired driver they cannot pull over and sleep the entire...

Love your dartboard comment. That's pretty much what I have seen as well.

    Inexpensive meals and eating

Great points... A few more minutes with a knife makes cooking much easier. I tend to follow the Asian practice and cut pieces down to where I can eat with chopsticks. That also helps me slow down and reduce my calorie intake. And I also have a cheap rice cooker. Oh... and washing a small rice...

    Social security

And what has the pay scale done since 1970 if you remove the executive salaries? Pew says: For most U.S. workers, real wages have barely budged in decades... https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2018/08/07/for-most-us-workers-real-wages-have-barely-budged-for-decades/ The Economic Policy...

Homelessness [split from Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts]

And I think we can add in a sizable percentage of homelessness caused by a lack of affordable rentals. I recently watched a news story about the Az "AG suing Arizona landlords for 'corrupting' market, colluding to keep rents high." In other news: a federal jury’s $1.8 billion verdict for...

    Inexpensive meals and eating

Since I don't cook meat, that's fine with me. :)

    Social security

Since 1970, the Consumer Price Index saw a 500%-plus increase. Even after adjusting for inflation, today's dollar buys a whole lot less than it did 50 or even 25 years ago. Note: That was a simple search and was not fact checked.

    Inexpensive meals and eating

Interesting... Chick peas or garbonzo beans are one of the primary ingrediants for DIY "fake" meat. Anyone wanting to eliminate or reduce meat consumption and has some time for food prep, should really grab those unwanted cans. Dried peas/beans work too. There are many recipes on YouTube and...

    SEASHELLS!!

And I worry about all those poor little sea creatures that now must use plastic and glass waste to hide in after some big land creature has taken all the shells away.

    Inexpensive meals and eating

I gave away my Instapot and now only use a small rice cooker. The I-pot was too complicated for me and I found the rice cooker makes far more than just rice. Uses less energy too. :)

    Buying Land

I looked at the reviews and it looks interesting. Something to remember for when or if it is needed. I'd like to know if his plans would be approved by the applicable local authority. When doing a search on Amazon Kindle I have also found several other options as well. I tend to prefer digital...

    Interesting Articles Relating to EVs

You are correct that our country has done "bad things." But under both parties and multiple Presidents. My own experience during the Vietnam War proved that much to me. So, while you have made some good points, I think they would be better made without casting them as specific to one President...

    Interesting Articles Relating to EVs

I liked this vehicle and would buy one if it was available and in my price range. But after watching more than half the video and doing several searches I could still not find a price. That's one of the things I hate about watching videos. Their objective is more about keeping us watching the...
