How did you end up on the road, and why are you still here?

I get it, 100% What made you come around to this way of thinking? What was your epiphany?

How did you end up on the road, and why are you still here?

It seems like you went from vagabonding on a bike, to travelling in a truck. You got bit early if I'm understanding right, but I also wonder what kept you doing it and why do it at all in the first place? What was your thinking back then and now as you've progressed through the years. What are...

How did you end up on the road, and why are you still here?

Thanks for the post. I did a little work with the forest service back around 2015, I really enjoyed the work. It might be something I look into because I can do it seasonally, and I didn't know it when I first got on with them, but there is a surprising amount of nomads that work seasonally...

How did you end up on the road, and why are you still here?

If you got some stories to how you got to where you did, or just old stories from riding back then and now, I'd like to hear them, I could use some wisdom in my life.

Like you, I served in the Army and was born in the later 80's and my experience getting out was about like yours, chaos and instability. I'll be leaving Florida this year just as soon as I'm done here to hit the road.

Greetings to all of the nomads here.

Check out bob wells' channel, you'll see all kinds of different arrangements there. That said, identify what you want the vehicle to do, and then that narrows down your choice. Like you already said you want to stealth camp, so odds are good a big RV or a cargo trailer will not be a good idea.

Just Throwing This Out There for Consumption

Sounds like you ran into some bougie people. I think you're better off finding a different crowd to meet up with and travel with.

How do u live on $700/month, truly?

I really think folks with a smaller fixed income should look to pairing up with someone in a similar situation and splitting costs, I think that would be much safer than hoping and praying you don't have any breakdowns or unexpected expenses cropping up. And I think this is very doable given a...

    Super Newbies looking for help

Keep some savings put away for the mechanical problems that will crop up sooner or later. I think there is a new nomad internet that is relatively new. Might be prudent to tuck away a gps locater on the rv somewhere. On fuel: https://gasprices.aaa.com/ https://fueleconomy.gov/trip/...

I did it today. The first real step toward getting out of sticks n bricks and away from having my pockets pilfered.

Sure thing, I'll post all the pics and steps as I go a long. Tear down begins monday.

You got it, its a 2500. The body and engine seem to be in great shape, I had a looksee and had a gasser mechanic look it over. Compression was good, block was good, no hydrocarbons in the coolant and only a few spots here and there of surface rust. I'm hoping to get a good year out of it before...

Its a chevy express g2500. So same little six banger 4.3, but the diff and tranny are a little hairier.

The best answer I can think of to that question is the engine that was the most well-maintained. You could have an absolute dog like a 6.5 outlast a legend like the 7.3 if the 7.3 was beat on and not maintained. I know that's not a super helpful answer, so, if you're looking at a van that...

I got a used 4.3l with 88k miles on it. It was fleet maintained, so I need to pull the shelves and stuff out. But I'm ready to start building-out the interior.

    Battery drain

Karla, watch the video and follow the step to find the parasitic draw. You can get a voltmeter for very cheap or even likely borrow one. It could be something more complicated, but this should at least get you in the right ballpark to start looking for the problem. Its a 95, so the wiring isn't...

Hello all...I could use a word of encouragement

While I'm not in your shoes and advice can be a real slippery thing to give. There is a pretty fine line between a nomad and someone up shitcreek and homeless. I think a little bit of savings is what largely makes up that line. I think bullfrog had some good advice in that if you decide to hit...
